Ocelot, Thanks for the response, from talking with others outside of this forum, you are not the only one with your views. Here is where I am having difficulties in all of this. As I said, I am very young in the LORD and am looking to do the right thing and follow HIS word. Here are my questions. 1) You said "As for all the finality mentioned by BradK in those verses, I don’t have a problem with them at all. I believe that Christ DID make the FINAL sacrifice. He paid it ALL. We pay NOTHING. All we do is accept the grace that God offers to us free of charge." If he paid it all, and forgave me for ALL of my sins, then why do I have to ask forgiveness for what has already been forgiven? 2) Is a sinless life here on earth, whle living in this human body, obtainable? 3) In 1 Corinthians 15:50, it says "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption." If our sins are forgiven and we are seen as perfect and reconciled to GOD, in can't be our flesh that was reconciled, the two natures warring against one another thing, why are we so worried about confessing every sin to GOD, and am I going to go to hell if I forget to comfess one? Thanks, Sam |

Hi Sam, Regarding your questions 1 and 3, I would like to mention this. In 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness," there are three main verbs, confess, forgive, and cleanse. While the second and third are Aorist tense, which generally speak of action that happens at a particular point in time, the first, confess, is in the Present tense, which speaks of action that is currently happening. "If we are confessing" would be a literal translation of this word. Confess means simply "say the same". His forgiveness and cleansing has been accomplished. Our confession is ongoing. God has forgiven me of my sin. I remain in agreement with Him regarding the sin that I continue to commit, and I voice my agreement with Him. This is confession of sin. Why does God instruct us to ask for forgiveness of sin, when all of our sin has been forgiven? That's one of those "why?" questions, which I am not sure the Bible tells us the answer to. I know that when I sin, my communion with God is altered, as my sin becomes the elephant in the room. And until it is dealt with, it gets in the way a lot. When I confess and ask God's forgiveness, it seems to "clear the air" between us, and our communion is restored to as it was before. Of the unconfessed sin? On this I will agree with what Ocelot wrote. If there is something that needs to be dealt with, the Holy Spirit will let you know. You are in good hands, God's hands, and He has promised to bring you safely home. No matter what. 1 Peter 1 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. "protected by the power of God" It's not by our own strength or ability, but by the power of God. And there is no greater power! Love in Christ, Mark |
