1 | Non-denominational theology? | John 3:16 | ICQ-GOD | 92479
Non-denominational simply means that your church is not affliated with any of the traditional denominational churches,e.g. - Methodist, Baptist, Church of Christ, etc. Churches which claim to be non-denominational are generally evangelistic and often charasmatic in nature. They believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God, inerrant and infallible and the only trustworthy source for truth and guidance in this life. Most believe in a second (post-salvation) blessing called the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. There is a general acceptance that the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit as listed in 1Cor.12 are for believers today and should be encouraged. Many will practice the gift of tongues, both in their private and corporate worship.Non-denom. churches represent the fastest growing type of church (within Christianity)in the U.S. and possibly the world This is just a start |

ICQ-GOD: I agree with most of your statement. May I point out something that might help you? I hope so. When sending a response it helps to look at the date the question or post was written. As most of the orignal posts were written a good time ago, often the people just drop in the Forum and make a few posts and then are never heard from again. Then you get no response, and that's discouraging, at least to me it is. In response to your note. Sometimes a nondenominatinal chuches are in reality a denomination. One group of churches I think of is Calvary Chapel, who I would say they are a loose knitted kind of group that fits that discription. Any thoughts? justme |

To Justme: I found out pretty quickly after registering as a new user to look at the date of the original posting. I had already sent my response before noticing the date. Regarding Calvary Chapel, you are probable right. Many non-denom. churches start mini-denominations as a way of connecting and being accountable to the Body; which is a good thing. Thanks for your response. |

4 | Non-denominational theology? | John 3:16 | justme | 92531
I believe from my experience is that in nondenominational churches there is no accountablity to anyone but their own internal group, if there such a group. Many churches like this cataory are churches started by a pastor who wants to be in control. I am not in any way saying Calvary Chapel is like this so please do not misunderstand me. Often there may be a dogma that must be strickly obeyed or you are outcast. One example might be required provable tithing, and required attendance. Highly structured and no room for questions. Sound a little like a cult? You are right. Remember Jim Jones? That's a perfect example. Any thoughts? justme |

5 | Non-denominational theology? | John 3:16 | ICQ-GOD | 92548
Justme, I can't speak from your experience but I can from mine.First of all let me say that I have been an avid student of God's Word since I was saved 33 years ago; so my foundation is pretty solid.I have been attending non-denom. churches for several years and have found nothing like what you mentioned(required tithing, etc.)I'm not saying that they don't exist but I havn't run across them.In fact the churches I've attended have been about as theologically square as can be found.I am not opposed to attending a main-line church if they meet my spiritual needs through the word and worship and evangelization.I have found that many non-denom. churches were once Baptist,Methodist and the like, who broke away from their denomination because they were too liberal. When you've got the Episcopalians ordaining gay men as bishops and other churches who can't seem to interpret the Bible correctly anymore, you can understand my point. So until I find a main-line church that exceeds what I find in the non-denom. churches, I for one, will stick with them. They arn't perfect but they are the best I have found.

ICQ-GOD: By no means was I saying a large percentage of Non-dem. churches were that way, please do not take it that way. As long as we humans are incharge of any church there willbe problems. Every denomination or non-denom church has things they need to be watchful for. I have been involved with our Nondenomiational church for about 5 years now, and like it very much. I have served as Pastor 1 SBC church two ABC churches and 1 conserative Baptist church. All of these churches were solid, and like all churches has problems. There is no such thing as aperfect church. Episcopalians are not the only ones being pressured by the sodomites of both men and women. The Abc has had some major splits and the the SBC has has spun several off shutes for many reasons. I hope this clears up any doubts that I some how did make clear. justme |
