1 | Why can God can love the world, not us? | John 3:16 | FredaP | 86457 | ||
Since the bible clearly states that God loved the world, Why can't I? Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. —1 John 2:15 John 3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,[1] that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. |

Greetings FredaP! Many times, words have various shades of meaning depending upon their context. In this case, the context makes clear how John is using the word 'world'. 1 John 2:15 - "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For everything in the world?the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does?comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." This passage shows that the 'things of the world' are the sins listed in v. 16. So, it is not the people of the world whom we are not to love. It is the worldly system which opposes and God, and the sins of the world we are to hate. We are called to love every person though! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
