1 | Wishful praying? | John 14:13 | azurelaw | 211183
Dear pgs, Welcome to the forum. I would say that you are partly correct in saying that : ...answers them according to our best interests, not always what we "wish" for... Don't remiss v13 in Chapter 14 and v8 in Chapter 15 which are the key idea or main focus for our prayers. Do you remember the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6 that Jesus clearly state our first and main concern in the beginning few sentences: Matt 6:9 "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Matt 6:10 'Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. In other words, our "wish" or "will" should be guided by God's wish and will. When we trust in Him and abide in Him, we will pursue in knowing more about Him and His will and submit to what He wishes and wills and pray accordingly with the ultimate goal or purpose that His name be glorified and honoured. Hope the above is helpful to you. Shalom Azure |

2 | Wishful praying? | John 14:13 | ovadyah | 211196
Shalom Azure, I would have to agree. The instruction is not given to those who are disbelievers. If so then imagine what these folks would ASK for!? This message is to "Christians",i.e., people who are learning to be like-christ. The Father will give Christ whatever He wished for, so would it not make sense he would do the same if we become Christ-like. Christ wouldn't asked the Father for anything that contradict the will of The Father. Furthermore, look what Christ added... 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments(Cf.Mt.5:17-19,Rev.14:12, Rev.12:17). |
