Bible Question:
In John 14:13-14 Jesus says "And I will do whatever you ask in my name.......You may ask for anything in my name, and I will do it." And in John 15:7 He says, "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you." NIV I understand and believe that the Lord hears all our prayers, but answers them according to our best interests, not always what we "wish" for. So, these verses are confusing to me. |
Bible Answer: Dear pgs, Welcome to the forum. I would say that you are partly correct in saying that : ...answers them according to our best interests, not always what we "wish" for... Don't remiss v13 in Chapter 14 and v8 in Chapter 15 which are the key idea or main focus for our prayers. Do you remember the Lord's prayer in Matthew 6 that Jesus clearly state our first and main concern in the beginning few sentences: Matt 6:9 "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Matt 6:10 'Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. In other words, our "wish" or "will" should be guided by God's wish and will. When we trust in Him and abide in Him, we will pursue in knowing more about Him and His will and submit to what He wishes and wills and pray accordingly with the ultimate goal or purpose that His name be glorified and honoured. Hope the above is helpful to you. Shalom Azure |
