1 | Caiaphas's prophecy misinterpreted? | John 11:51 | Michael Draves | 103078
Caiaphas didn't consider his own words in verses 50 and 51 to be a prophecy but a statement about a way to avoid the Romans destroying the holy place and the nation according to verse 48. But his words are taken as a prophecy because he was the High Priest. The High Priest could be manipulated just like a King in Proverbs 21:1 "The king's heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He wishes."
2 | Caiaphas's prophecy misinterpreted? | John 11:51 | Makarios | 103082
Greetings Michael Draves, Thank you for the answer! However, how would Caiaphas come to the conclusion that killing Jesus would work to appease the Romans? I believe that he misinterpreted the prophecy, not having any idea of the scope of what it really meant, and then used it as an excuse to kill Jesus out of his own envy of Him. I do not believe that Proverbs 21:1 could in any way be applied to Caiaphas, since he was not the king and he did not make the decisions that would show the Lord working through him. Instead, he takes the revelation given to him by God and then kills God's Son!! So, no, Caiaphas cannot be thought of in any way as a "king." Blessings to you, Makarios |
