1 | Is the Word-Faith movement biblical ? | John 10:27 | EdB | 7871
This is getting messy. Let’s separate Word of Faith from valid Christianity. Word of Faith borders on the metaphysical, in that they teach nothing becomes anything until it is spoken. Hence if your sick and you refuse to say your sick you will not be sick. If your car blows up it is only a false manifestation from Satan to defeat you and the car is not really blown up until after you say my car just blew up. They base this on the teachings of F.F. Bosworth and E. W. Kenyon. Kenyon in particular and Bosworth both daubled in the metaphysical before advancing their thoughts on the Christian world. Kenneth Hagin then developed their teaching into what I would call the Word of Faith movement. He claimed never to be sick because he would never allow the false manifestation of sickness brought on by Satan to become real by his voicing of them. In other words if your leg falls off it really didn’t fall off it is just an illusion of Satan to get you to confess your leg just fell off. Neat huh! Then they add to all this mix the fact that God wants you healthy, wealthy and just down right peachy. The only way any problems can come into your life is if you allow them by failing to speak positively or speak something negative into being. Then to sort of cinch it all down they say the only two things that can block your positive confession is the lack of faith or unconfessed sin. Therefore if anything bad does happen to you they always have an out. Either you lack faith or are a sinner. Kind of like catch 22. Your leg falls off, you can’t move, but you can’t call for help because if you say your leg fell off it really will. And since you can't confess it back on your either in sin or you lack mountain moving faith. This all works really well for headaches and such but when a real disaster comes into your life you pretty much look like a fool standing there saying my child didn’t died, it’s all a false manifestation of Satan, while they are throwing dirt on your child’s coffin. Then as you walk away from the cemetery your fellow church members whisper amongst themselves that child would have lived if only you had more faith or would have confessed the sin that was in your life preventing God from moving. This does happen folks! This is not to say God does not heal today, this is not to say God is not in the miracle working business, nor is this to say we shouldn’t have a positive outlook. What I am saying is we have to have our faith in God not in what we speak. |

2 | Is the Word-Faith movement biblical ? | John 10:27 | Morant61 | 7889
Greetings EdB! Great comments! The story you related at the end of your post actually happened to my family. My wife and I were in college when we lost a 9 month old son to congenital heart defects. Some of the people in the church we were attending were into the Word of Faith movement. They actually came up to my wife in church and told her that our son only died because we didn't have enough faith. My response to them (once I found out about their comment) was: "We were only able to survive our loss because of our faith." Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Apparently I have only been exposed to the extremist point of view of WF. I am involved in a discussion on this subject on another board and found this post from that thread informative. Jason Paul Lifter Posts: 213 (6/20/01 2:29:08 pm) Reply Balance I have heard and read a lot of Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, Jesse Duplantis, etc. I don't agree with everything they say. But, before you judge them (or others), be familiar with their message. The Word-Faith teachers, on the whole, don't really teach that God is required to give you whatever you want. Generally, they teach that you should find PROMISES in the Bible regarding a situation, and stand on those promises. God keeps his promises. I agree that many of the Word-Faith teachers go overboard at times regarding material things. But, as a general message, it really just means to assess your needs, with the help of the Holy Spirit, find scripture promising to fill that need, and stand on that promise. Also, you should never simply believe what someone says just because they're holding a Bible. True, the Bible warns about becoming a teacher because of the responsibility. But, you are capable of checking teachers with the Bible yourself. Read Acts (I don't have my Bible here). The people were actually commended for checking the teachings with scripture. Always check for yourself. These are just my thoughts. Get wisdom. Wisdom comes from a balance between the Word in your head, and the Spirit in your heart. Jason Well I'm better than dirt! Well... most kinds of dirt... not that fancy storebought dirt. That stuff's loaded with nutrients. I... I can't compete with that stuff. - Moe Szyslak |

4 | Do W-F Twist The Bible? Acts 17:11 | John 10:27 | Searcher56 | 7897
Acts 17:11 may the verse you want. Word-Faith teaches some things that are Biblical, but, some are not. 'In brief, the teachings of these men may be summarized as follows: God created man in "God's class," as "little gods," with the potential to exercise the "God kind of faith" in calling things into existence and living in opportunity, however, by rebelling against God in the Garden and taking upon ourselves Satan's nature. To correct this situation, Jesus Christ became a man, died spiritually (thus taking upon Himself Satan's nature), went to Hell, was "born again," rose from the dead with God's nature again, and then sent the Holy Spirit so that the Incarnation could be duplicated in be-lievers, thus fulfilling their calling to be little gods. Since we are called to experience this kind of life now, we should be successful in every area of our lives. To be in debt, then, or be sick, or (as is often taught) be left by one's spouse, and not to have these problems go away by "claiming" God's promises, shows a lack of faith.' I was able to see (some of) the errors. But, they refused to listen. When the elders, and the people thought I was wrong, I left. I was tempted to challange him during one message, but held my tongue. |

5 | Do W-F Twist The Bible? Acts 17:11 | John 10:27 | EdB | 7933
While some of this teaching is Word of Faith not all of it is. Some of it is just junk invented to keep the ball rolling as it were, to provide fresh “rhema” word, new revelation to the audience that had developed an appetite for such. None of these guys would be doing this if there was no listeners, no one to support their junk. No one in the church world is calling them to task. The only organization that has said anything I know of is Christian Research Institute and everyone is against them. Our friend Hank in an earlier response said he hadn’t even heard of Word of Faith before now. Word of Faith claims millions in their membership that is a number too big to be ignored. We fail to take action because we don’t want to cast the first stone (maybe we need to get our lives under the blood so we are without sin). We are afraid of slandering another Christian, we feel a man’s personal life is just that, and we don’t expect a higher standard for our teachers, preachers and pastors. What does the world see? They see a church that is racked with sin, corruption, and all forms of immorality. They see a church that let’s men who are obviously in it for the money unashamedly demanding money from deceived and in some cases feeble minded believers and they are getting it to the tune of billions each year. Look at Paul he wasn’t afraid to call a bum and bum II Tim 4:14. |
