1 | Is the Word-Faith movement biblical ? | John 10:27 | Reformer Joe | 8170
I did not intend the "scoffing" remark to be a personal attack, Mark. I apologize if it seemed so. It was more of a general statement to those who unquestioningly accept whatever is said to be a prophecy from God. Having some experience with such groups, I am sure you have heard at least one leader try and put himself above discernment and correction by some out-of-context quote such as "Touch not the Lord's anointed." The fact I was trying to put forth is that for us, there is nothing like a strong and ever-growing familiarity with orthodox Christianity as expressed in the Holy Scriptures to discern and name false prophets and heresies which threaten the pure bride of Christ. We all must be zealous for the truth, and even our emotional experiences and joy must be based on God's true character and revelation. After all, as we simply dwell on the chracteristics of our amazing Lord, the Spirit who indwells us causes us to marvel and praise him for who He really is! As a side note, my mother-in-law, while not so steeped in Word-Faith, is very much a product of a less-than-discerning, jump-on-every-bandwagon kind of Christianity. I do indeed love her, but I am often saddened at how frequently I have to gently "burst her bubble" about some trend, fad, emerging cult-like leader (e.g. Gwen Shamblin), or other flavor of the month for a movement which emphasizes signs and wonders and emotional experience over solid exegesis of God's holy Word. --Joe! |

Dear Joe, Yes it reads very much like a personal remark. This brings up a point I'd like to make. How about we not respond to each other's posting like we are taking a chance to vent our pet peeves, or our pet doctrines, but rather always respond to what the person says. Case in point is the diatribe I got from Radioman. I couldn't take it personal, for it was largely not a response to what I said, but what it made him feel. OK enough scolding, I'm too far away to take it personal, and I have no doubt you are in the trenches dealing with people who do not know the Lord, and those system of lies whose sole purpose is to keep them blind to the Person we love. I guess it's simple enough: Our faith is not in a body of truth, but in the Person who embodies the truth, and our zeal is for Him. mrk PS. Sorry, but I like signs and wonders, but not on TV. I like the ones that come out of my own hands. |

3 | Is the Word-Faith movement biblical ? | John 10:27 | Radioman | 8173
Mark: It is more than gracious of you to write: "Case in point is the diatribe I got from Radioman. I couldn't take it personal, for it was largely not a response to what I said, but what it made him feel." How kind and Christ-like of you to see it that way. It's more kindness than I deserve. You are right. When I went off on you, you were not the one I was angry with. I had a lot of accumulated anger towards certain individuals on the Forum. (Neither you nor EdB were among that number.) I took out my anger upon you. My pre-existing anger is no excuse for treating you the way I did. There is no excuse for that. My apology is way overdue and should have been made days ago. I have nothing but repentance and remorse for my extreme personal remarks to you that I posted last week. You in no way deserved such treatement from me. In this you have been the Christian and I have played the role of pagan. I take back every harsh and critical remark I made to you. I apologize for every offensive syllable. I admit I was way wrong. Will you forgive me? I have been following your postings. At all times you have demonstrated a splendid attitude in all you've written. The content of your postings are biblical and they do make sense, a lot of sense. Again, I apologize and ask your forgiveness for my inexcusable past behavior toward you. I hope it's not too late for us to be friends, but if it is, I know I brought it upon myself. Keep up the positive, helpful posts. Sincerely, Radioman |

Dear Radioman, You break my heart. Forgive you? You are no way near the 7 X 70. I love a hot head, it's proof of a soldier's heart and if you look at the 12 Jesus chose, two were the Son's of Thunder, one was a Zealot and we all know about Peter. Jesus keeps company with the likes of you; calling you friend instead of servant. By the way, your stray bullet just might have been ordained for me (Ps 76:10), for much of what you said was a warning how close I get to a line I should never cross. Friends? I sincerely hope so. Brothers? I pray you judge me so. mrk |
