1 | Can one be christian and NOT a disciple? | Luke 9:23 | All4Jesus | 21024
The answer to your question is NO. You can't be a Christian and not be a disciple. In the New Testament Jesus never reffered to his followers as Christians; however, the word Christian did appear about 2 or 3 times in the Bible with somewhat of a negative conotation as you can clearly see in Acts 26:28 and 1Peter 4:16. I don't recall the third place in the Bible where the word Christian was used. Anyhow, in both cases it was used to reffer to those who followed Christ who were called disciples. I am not sure when the word Christian became the more popular word used to refer to the Church. We tend to use it today rather loosely though. I believe that is why some people today feel as though there is a difference between being a disciple and being a Chirstian. The truth is there is no difference between a Christian and a disciple. There shouldn't be. Also, you might want to consider Matt 28:18-20 in which Jesus commisioned his disciples to go make disciples of all nations. There you will see that there is only one thing that he calls us to do which ought to be our mission in life which is to be disciples who make disciples. That is what a Christian ought to be and that is what a Christian ought to do. I hope that helped. |

2 | Can one be christian and NOT a disciple? | Luke 9:23 | JoyBell_1943 | 157321
When we ask Jesus to come into our heart and are born again by His Spirit, we are "Christian." As we yeild our as Paul said "members?" we die to our own will and ways and flesh and the world and pride and we are yeilded to HIS Spirit, and in HIS word...HIS word in us,, the fire of HIS Spirit IN US causes us to then be deciples of others. When we just take a Bible as instructed, or share scripture as we are religiously taught, we have a tendency to antagonize not spiritualize the blind out in the world. ONLY when the HOLY SPIRIT draws us do we become deciples and reach out to the world. We can be Christian, never really participate in study, never yeild our members, and never really produce fruit for the kingdom and our reward will be little in Heaven but we will still have our names written in the lambs book,,,we always need to remember, to yeild so we can be effective for the kingdom of God as the coming of the Lord approaches, for Jesus commissioned his twelve but they all did not go, Samson fell but he is in Heaven just as the thief on the cross thanks be to God's mercy...What we ought to be depends on how we yeild. I hope that helps because the Holy Spirit does not force us to deal with the sins of our flesh, the pride of life, the world that draws us away from serving the king of kings, and the choice is always going to be for us to YEILD to the kingdom. amen?

6 | Can one be christian and NOT a disciple? | Luke 9:23 | lionheart | 157339
Hey Doc, Acts 11:26b The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch. You are right on with your statement. I heard someone say once that if Jesus wasnt ones Lord He would not be savior. I grew up during a time when the teaching Jesus as savior which is as it should be,but his Lordship was for the most part untaught. That was where I was at for many many years. It was an excuse for me to continue in the life I was living. Lordship has always been part of the package. We wont have one without the other. It took me 43 years to finally figure it out. Thank God fore grace and a whole lot of mercy. God gave us the full meal deal when he sent his Son for us,he expects no less of us. In Christ, lionheart |
