1 | Why were Shepherds choosen | Luke 2:8 | Dalprad | 25904
Hi! I just heard a short presentation on this yesterday. Apparantly the shepherds were considered very low class people. Being a shepherd was a low calling for a Jew. Maybe like being a beggar or something today. I guess it was to show that recurring theme that the last would be first, and the first last. The Shepherds came to Jesus with nothing, just themselves straight from the field. It shows we don't have to get all dressed up to come to Jesus, but just as we are. I am relaying this from a short sermon I heard yesterday, I hope it came handy! Dan |

2 | Why were Shepherds choosen | Luke 2:8 | EdB | 25917
Dan your right shepherds were on the lower end of the scale, mainly because it was nearly impossible for them to keep Jewish cleanliness rituals out there with the sheep. I think God told them about Jesus because he had their attention. We see from David he spent many hours worshipping God under the beauty of the night sky. The rest of the world was tied up in itself and to busy to stop and look up at the heavens. Things of God would have to wait until their immediate needs were met. There may be other reasons of which we are not privy but I think the biggest was they were paying attention. EdB |
