2 | Priesthood and marriage | Luke 1:5 | Makarios | 48286 | ||
Greetings Pgs! The apostle Peter was married (1 Cor. 9:5, Mark 1:30), and that fact alone contradicts the "requirement of celibacy" that is imposed upon those who seek the priesthood. The irony goes even further for Catholics when a person considers the fact that Catholics believe that Peter was the first pope. If Peter was married, then why is it that all popes, cardinals and priests after him did not follow in his footsteps by getting married? No, the Bible does not say that those who are ministers, priests, or overseers should not be able to marry. In fact, it almost states the very opposite! (1 Tim. 3:2) Blessings to you, Makarios |
