1 | Prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) who is he? | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96238
In Luke 15:11-32 who are the two sons? I'm convinced that the story illustrates a sinner coming to repentance. I want to be sure that I haven't overlooked any possibilities. Is it possible the two sons represent the Jews and the Gentiles? Any other possibilities that I am overlooking? Thanks and Regards, Huron |

2 | Prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) who is he? | Luke 15:11 | EdB | 96239
Huron The thrust of Jesus' ministry was God's children returning to God. We know Jesus made that possible by His blood. Too many times we read into Jesus' parables other meanings. Jesus gave two lessons in this parable. One the wayward child leaving the father and his return . The father welcomed him with open arms. Just as our Father welcomes us with open arms. The other lesson was the there are many people that feel they never have left God, in that they at an early age accepted Jesus as Lord and have been serving God virtually all their life. Then they see a Johnny come lately come into salvation and get angry that God loves them as much as they, who has served for so long. There are those that might try to apply this parable to the Jews and Gentile but that is reading in things that just aren’t there. EdB |

3 | Prodigal follow up | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96308
In my mind this parable demonstrates that although we are saved by grace through faith, we must make a decision about Christ/receive Him. I see this parable as showing that although the prodigal son was dead spiritually (clearly not following the Lord when he made his decision) God still allows us to choose him. So although God is all powerful, he is still a perfect gentleman and allows us to choose life in His Son. Of course we do this after we realize that we could never earn salvation on our own, but must believe in the Lord Jesus. Would that be accurate? The reason I'm asking this question is that others say that we are dead to God and can't do anything, therefore we can't make a decision for Christ. |

Read this. It maybe helpful “Christian theology teaches the doctrine of prevenient grace, which briefly stated means this, that before a man can seek God, God must first have sought the man. Before a sinful man can think a right thought of God, there must have been a work of enlightenment done within him” “We pursue God because, and only because, He has first put an urge within us that spurs us to the pursuit.” No man can come to me, said our Lord, except the Father which has sent me draw him. “On our part there must be positive reciprocation if this secret drawing of God is to eventuate in identifiable experience of the Divine.” A. 5 | God must first seek the man? | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96342
NC, You wrote, "before a man can seek God, God must first have sought the man". Doesn't God seek ALL men? (1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.) (The person that I've been talking with believes in single predestination) |

Huron In an effort not to start another war. Let me say there are two schools of thought. One which believes God only selects certain people for salvation. The other believes God offers salvation to all. Neither side can prove their view to the satisfaction of the other side and the subject has been debated off and on for thousands of years and very hotly over the last 500 or so. It has also been the topic of much debate on this forum of which few of us have any interest of seeing reopened. Since neither side has what the other feels is conclusive proof the debates rages on. In an effort to preserve peace I ask that what ever side you hold you continue to hold it and should you and who ever wants to debate it how about doing it off forum. EdB |
