Bible Question:
In my mind this parable demonstrates that although we are saved by grace through faith, we must make a decision about Christ/receive Him. I see this parable as showing that although the prodigal son was dead spiritually (clearly not following the Lord when he made his decision) God still allows us to choose him. So although God is all powerful, he is still a perfect gentleman and allows us to choose life in His Son. Of course we do this after we realize that we could never earn salvation on our own, but must believe in the Lord Jesus. Would that be accurate? The reason I'm asking this question is that others say that we are dead to God and can't do anything, therefore we can't make a decision for Christ. |
Bible Answer: Huron I personally agree with you, that God triggers something in us that convicts of our sin and establishes a need within us to seek salvation. However yes I think we must be the one that decide to trust in Jesus or not. Other brothers in the Lord believe as you stated that God does everything. Let me say this, salvation is a mystery and a miracle that God performs through His Holy Spirit. God has chosen not to completely explain or reveal how salvation is accomplished in our lives. Therefore for either group to state dogmatically that they can explain salvation is basically false and more than slightly arrogant EdB |
