2 | Question from a newbie | Luke 14:26 | Mommapbs | 110226 | ||
Greetings 38 Lulu and welcome to the Forum! The Scrpture I am referencing is a difficult one to understand, but I do believe it relates to what you are questioning. Here is a post I wrote concerning it: To understand this passage you must take the emotion out of the word hate. This would be a contradiction of His command to love one another! What Christ is calling for here is complete surrender. "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." Mt 6:24 Luke 18:18-23 is an illustration of this principle. The ruler chose his wealth (which is anything that takes the rightful place of God in our lives, "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" !) Jesus tells us to love one another, but HE wants to be first place in our lives. Remember what the greatest commandment is? See Mt 22:36-40. When we love Him with all of our being, the love for others will be a reflection of His love though us! The circle of God's love is complete when we accept God's love, love Him back and love others. A Christ follower is a disciple, but not all disciples are Christ followers. Mt 7:13-29 Now, my counsel to you is this: be obedient to Jesus and follow Him! Everyone will one day have to give an account of their choices, including your folks. Sometimes, people try to make excuses for not following Jesus - and it's real easy when they consider the walks of other "Christians." But, we are not to be focused on them! God's Word tells us to fix your eyes upon Jesus, the Author and finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2). Also as an encouragment to you, "Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe." 1 Tim 4:12 Blessings, mommapbs |
