1 | Is it by works or by grace? | Luke 11:8 | McGracer | 57719
Dear NASB Forum, Luke 11:8 seems to say that God answers because of persistence. In other words, it seems to imply that asking God once concerning a matter is not enough - that we must keep on asking and keep on knocking until He answers. If we are His children, then why does He not simply hear us and answer the first time? Is it truly grace if our prayers are answered according to our persistence instead of according to His loving care? How do we reconcile this attitude with 2 Pet 1:3 that says that His divine power has already granted us everything we need for life and godliness? Thanks. McGracer |

2 | Is it by works or by grace? | Luke 11:8 | Kango | 57766
God hears our prayers the the first time when we say them. Sometimes the answer may be delayed because the enemy (Satan) may try to block the answer (Dan 10:12-14) or we ask God with the wrong motives (James 4:3). When we ask God for anything it must be in accordance with his will for you. Also you must believe that he hears you, and in God's timing not ours. The answer will come. While we are awaiting the answer, give thanks and praise (praise speeds up the answer) unto the Lord. As for 2 Peter 1:3 is referring to the Spiritual tools (The HOLY SPIRIT) we need to live a holy and blameless life before the LORD.
3 | Is it by works or by grace? | Luke 11:8 | McGracer | 57782
Dear Kango, Thanks for your answer. You bring up a good point about praying according to His will. In fact, Rom 8:27 seems to say that the Holy Spirit does this very thing. But do you have any thoughts as to why we would need to continue to pray for things if, according to 2 Pet 1:3, the Holy Spirit in us is already everything that we NEED for life and godliness? Thanks. McGracer |

4 | Is it by works or by grace? | Luke 11:8 | gracechild | 57785
McGracer, It is never by works, always by grace. God owes us nothing. We cannot gain His favor...we already have it. Yes, I believe we already have everything we need for life and godliness. Prayer is not about "getting" God to focus on us, but rather our need to focus on Him. This is why, we pray unceasingly. He is not hard of hearing but as we call upon Him, we are reminded that He is truly in control of our lives. Just my thoughts. Grace child, Toni |
