1 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52644
Eph 4:5 There is one baptism. Before you say that this is Holy Spirit baptism, look at vs. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; So it's clearly speaking of water baptism. Many have said this is refering to the Holy Spirit, but it's not, seeing that Paul mentions the Holy Spirit prior to baptism. |

You wrote: "So it's clearly speaking of water baptism. Many have said this is refering to the Holy Spirit, but it's not, seeing that Paul mentions the Holy Spirit prior to baptism." And he mentions "one Lord" before and "one God." Are these not all referring to the Triune God? Your logic does not hold up. No one says that the baptism IS the Holy Spirit, but that we are baptized BY the one Spirit. Again you fail to make the fine distinctions. Let's look at Paul's parallel passage that mentions many of the same elements: "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit." --1 Corinthians 12:13 One Spirit baptizing us into one body. Same as the Ephesians passage. Paul is making the same point in two different epistles, to the same end: to promote unity among believers. In the Corinthians passage, he is clearly referring to the baptism into Christ by the Spirit. It is very reasonable to conclude that is the baptism being referred to in Ephesians 4. Is the baptism of the Holy Spirit the same as water baptism? If so, then Jesus was pretty confused: "for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." --Acts 1:5 Peter got it, too: '"And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning. And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life."' --Acts 11:15-18 One more time for emphasis: "Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also AFTER BELIEVING [yet before water baptism] in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" Indeed, who are we to stand in God's way? --Joe! |

3 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52662
Dear fellow believers, Luke 18:17 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." (NASB) What does this mean?(And I don't want to hear any new covenant/old covenant arguments). Jesus is telling us, that the path to the Kingdom of God is so easy, that even a child could understand it. Children don't give a wit about doctrine, different paths, etc. They understand John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." Notice, He does not say, "Believe in Me, and get baptized." That is what it means to "receive the kingdom of God like a child". Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

." Notice, He does not say, "Believe in Me, and get baptized." Look at Mark 16:16 and make the your statement about what Jesus didn't say! |

It must be pretty dreary to have one's entire theology based on two verses (out of 13,000 which are to be found in Scripture) that one must repeat over and over and over and over and over again. Especially when one of those verses may not be inspired of God... From someone who has experience in this field, your devotion to your denomination is quite cultic. And yes, I did say "denomination." --Joe! |

Why the insults, I thought we were discussing a subject, (BAPTISM) not disrespecting one another! I was told these types of things should be done on this forum. But it's OK I won't be mad at you for your insults. I forgive you! Is Baptism a bible subject or not? If not I won't talk about it anymore, but if it is I'll talk about it till Jesus come's. There are more than two verses about baptism in the bible anyway!

baptism is a subject for which your point of view has been thoroughly exhausted. You are at the point of repeating yourself ad nauseam. We know which verse you cling to with all of your might. We know what your answer is going to be whenever anyone points out your error in interpreting Scripture. Your posts are on file with the forum, so anyone wanting to know the Church of Christ view on baptism can just read two of your posts and get the idea that everything in the New Testament hinges on Mark 16:16 and Acts 2:38. In other words, your posts contribute nothing new to this discussion, so please let it die. I think that both of us have treated the subject thoroughly, so let's let the rest of the universe dwell upon our lively discussion as it stands now. --Joe! |
