Greetings Grace and Truth, 1 Peter 3:21 is missing the word "water" in reference to baptism.. Ephesians 5:26 is referring to the Word of God, not baptism.. Colossians 2:12 does not mention the word "water" in reference to baptism.. Galatians 3:27 does not mention the word "water" in reference to baptism.. 1 John 5:8 could very well be referring to water baptism.. I do not dispute the fact that baptism is definitely something to be joyful and rejoice in, as in Acts 8:39. Romans 6:3-4 does not mention the word "water" in reference to baptism.. As for Acts 22:16, it is the LORD who forgives and cleanses us from our sins. It is not baptism. Please see Psalm 79:9, Mark 2:7-11, Luke 5:20-25. One could easily argue that the remission of sins comes from one's own repentance rather than baptism in Acts 2:38... As for John 3:5: Yes, it does parallel Ezekiel 36:25-27. However, Titus 3:5 tells us that the "active agent" here is the Holy Spirit, not water. Matthew 3:15 is referring to John's baptism of Jesus by water, and this verse does not clearly(within the immediate context of the verse) apply a universal meaning to everyone regarding baptism, even though I would agree that baptism is righteous and should be undertaken. Jesus is simply telling John that this is something that must be done, even though you don't see John being baptised by Jesus or by any one of His disciples. Titus 3:5 states, "he saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal in the Holy Spirit," [RSV] Therefore, we are not saved by being baptised by water. We are saved because of the Holy Spirit living and dwelling within us. I believe that water baptism is very important even though I do not believe that it is absolutely necessary for a person to be baptised by water in order to have salvation in Jesus' name. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Dear Makarios, Let us not forget Acts 11: Acts 11:15 "And as I[Peter] began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning. Acts 11:16 "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'" Just curious, what exactly does your name, Makarios, mean? Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings 2nd Samuel 22! Thank you for citing Acts 11:15-16. As for my username "Makarios"... "The Greek word 'makarios' (mak-ar'-ee-os) means 'blessed', 'well off', and 'fortunate' (Ex: Matthew 5:7)." (Taken from my User Profile) For my first 1,780 posts, I used "Nolan Keck", which is my real name, for my Username. From there and up to post# 1,920, I used "Nicodemus" as a Username. But then I changed it back to simply "Nolan Keck". Many fellow Forum members graciously e-mailed me, and I appreciated that! But at the same time, I began to recieve many e-mailings from people of whom I had never met on the Forum, asking me questions.. So I again saw the need to have an 'alias', and I chose "Makarios", to change my Username for the last and final time, at around post# 3,100. I chose "Makarios" as a Username because I have been greatly blessed by the Lord during my short lifetime! I like your Username, 2nd Samuel 22!
