1 | The cup? | Matt 26:39 | Emmaus | 47830 | ||
Mommaps, So with the fourth cup of consummation on the cross at His death completed His Passover sacrifice of Himself and completed the covenant meal sealing the New Covenant, just as the first Passover meal sealed the Old Covenant. But God continues to keep his saving covenant promises throughout history even now as He did throughout the history of the Old Covenant. And we continue to remember in or covenant meal. The question is: are we willing to do as Christ did and take up the fourth cup? Are we willing, by His grace, to take up our cross and follow Him, as He bid us do, putting to death the sin in our lives and conforming ourselves to Him, making ourselves a holy and living sacrifice to God as Paul says. Thanks Emmaus for the info! You asked: "The question is: are we willing to do as Christ did and take up the fourth cup?" However, you also stated that the fourth cup is the "consummation on the cross at His death (which)completed His Passover sacrifice of Himself and completed the covenant meal sealing the New Covenant". If Christ "our Passover Lamb" has been sacrificed FOR US,in our place, then we no longer have to take the fourth cup - for HE FINISHED IT! There is no sacrifice for sins left to be made! Perhaps if we considered that the cup Jesus asked to pass on was God's judgment on sin (the penalty for sin is separation from God)we might have a more thorough appreciation for what He really suffered FOR US! Recall the words of our Savior as He was crucified, "My God, My God, whay have You forsaken me?" Praise God, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! Never will He forsake US! Jesus tells us to take up our cross,yes, to "die to self" and let Him reign in our mortal bodies. However, I don't believe that that we, as believers are meant to drink from the same cup the Father gave to Jesus. The cup that Jesus extends to us is the cup of salvation. This is the "new covenant in His blood!" Those who refuse the Cup of Salvation will most surely drink from the cup of God's wrath! Blessings, Mommapbs |
