1 | Is it necessarily a threat? | Matt 26:24 | Ray | 105523
Hi Tim, Thank you. I wasn't looking at the first part of the verse especially, so that is a good point. However, when I looked at the word woe in Strong's #3759 it said, "a prim. interj.: alas! woe! (an expression of grief or denunciation):--woe (46), woes (1). That still leaves it open to certainly a denunciation but not necessarily a judgement. 1) I wonder if you would comment on the NASB margin for Matthew 26:24, "It would have been good [Lit. for him if that man had not been born]. 2 | Is it necessarily a threat? | Matt 26:24 | Morant61 | 105584
Greetings Ray! Concerning 'woe' my friend, check out the context of all it's occurances in the Gospels and it definitely seems that there is an element of judgement associated with the word. Concerning the last clause, I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for in terms of comments. The last clause simply says: 'good was to him if not he was born the man that one'. If you could clarify what you are looking for, perhaps I can help! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
