1 | EXPLAIN MATTHEW 24 VS. 1-10 | Matt 24:1 | CDBJ | 184855 | ||
Thank friend for your openion it's been fun for me and a great exercise in futility. Now I have to go figure out a way to get my eardrums fixed and figure out how to put all the fires out! 2 Peter 3:8-10 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. CDBJ, I get it. I love sarcasm. Again, though I've dealt with it before, I'll give it another shot. 2 Pet. 3:8-10 is not looking into the distant future but the distant past. He is referring back to the time of Noah reminding them that God did fulfill His promise of judgement. 1 Pet. 4:7The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. This was Peter's first letter to the same audience. I don't think you could have convinced them that the second coming wouldn't take place until at least two thousand years into the future. I know you will reject this out of hand, but Peter was referring to the passing away of the Old Covenant so your eardrums are safe and you don't have to put out any fires. The "heavens and earth" was the place where God met with man, the temple in Jerusalem. The "works that are therein shall be burned up", or exposed, refer to the revealing of the hidden works of the wicked. Matt 10:26"So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Thanks for your time, Coper |
