1 | What makes a tithe a tithe? | Matt 23:23 | GaryArnold | 225680 | ||
The New Testament teaches generous, sacrificial giving, from the heart, according to our means. For some, one dollar might be a sacrifice, while for others, even giving 50 percent of their income might not induce a sacrifice. In the Old Testament, ONLY the farmers tithed, and it was equal percentage (a tenth). The New Testament teaches the principle of equal sacrifice instead of equal percentage. Equal sacrifice is much harder to achieve, if not impossible, than giving ten percent. I believe those led by the Spirit, and financially able, will give far more than a mere tenth of their income. |

Hi Gary, Thanks for your clarification! For the most part, I'm in agreement with you my friend:-) We could certainly note the window giving her mite in Mark 12:42-44 as exemplifying the sacrificial aspect of (her) giving! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
