It can be summed up as keeping your eyes continually on the Lord. Daily putting aside what we would want in our flesh and do the will of God which is found in His Word, and by the leading of the Holy Spirit. This is not to physically die sacrifically, but a living sacrifice - we "kill" our flesh and become more and more like Jesus, and doing His work. Jesus did only what the Father told him to do. In practical terms this would mean trying not to make our own plans or complete things in our own strength. We should say "God be willing" we will do this, or that. We need to know the Word of God, what is expected and commanded of us by God. We should continually be asking for the prompting and direction of the Holy Spirit, making no decisions on our own authority, but by direction of God. We need to forget what we would desire for us, our greedy, self-centerd or worldly wishes, and always keep our eyes on Jesus and what His desires for our lives are. The world is completely ME centered. This makes it especially important to stay in the Word daily to keep renewing our minds. We are the physical manifestation that the rest of the world uses to "See" Jesus. We are to act, think, speak, and heal as Christ did. In this way we sacrifice our selfish selves to make more room for Jesus - less of us, more of Him. Matt 10:38,39: If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it. Gal 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Gal 5:17 The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict. Gal 6:8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful desires will harvest the consequences of decay and death. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. |
