2 | having to work the sabbath | Matt 12:1 | Dino Bencini | 33705
Simple answer. The sabbath rule does not apply anymore since Jesus. In Matt 12:1 to 11 The deciples worked for food(picking heads of grain) and the Pharisees tried to condem them but Jesus illistrates that he is Lord of the sabbath. In Matt 12:6 Jesus says "But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here." Refering to the priests breaking the sabbath in the temple. He also says Matt 12:11 And He said to them, "What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out?". Greetings Dino, I disagree. The 10 commandments state "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy", (Exo 20:8-11). We are no more rid of this commandment than we are any other commandment. We are still to remember the sabbath and we are to keep it holy. The reference you are referring to in Matt. 12 concerns the words that the priests had with Jesus because he allowed His disciples to pick grain on the Sabbath. Ordinary people were not allowed to do any work on the Sabbath, not even light a fire. The priest's work however doubled on the Sabbath (see Num 28:9-10). Therefore what Jesus was saying is that God's service takes precedence over Sabbath rules. The argument is that if priests who work in the temple on the Sabbath are guiltless because they further the worship of God, how much more are the disciples guiltless because they are serving Christ and obeying Him in their actions on the Sabbath. This exchange in no way deletes the Sabbath. prayon |

5 | having to work the sabbath | Matt 12:1 | prayon | 33810
No I am not. Exo 20:9-10 tells us that we are to work 6 days and the 7th day is to be a day of rest which we are to dedicate to the Lord. This day does not have to be on Sunday if you can not dedicate this day to the Lord because of work. We are told to take one day a week and dedicate a day to the Lord to worship Him and reflect on His goodness and mercy. I, as a nurse, have to do this on other days besides Sunday. prayon
6 | having to work the sabbath | Matt 12:1 | Dino Bencini | 33814
Ok look to be honest I do not know a lot about this teaching but I'll ask a friend of mine who is very in tune to Gods heartbeat and get back to you. But let me tell you this I worship God everyday in the morning before work, at lunch on my way home and back to work again and then when work finishes I worship all the way home and I constantly reflect on his glory. Not joking here but sometime even on my way to the toilet I'm praiseing and worshipping God. You see I feel that since Jesus, we have him living inside of us and we constantly share with him and him with us. I would find it interesting if we could find a deciple in the bible upholding the sabbath. |
