1 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Mommapbs | 22003
Clarification on my question. I am concerned about the church that looks at the giving record of its members, and based upon that giving record, the administration of the church decides if an individual is being obedient to "tithing." If the church judges that the individual is tithing TO THAT CHURCH,then that individual is deemed qualified to serve in a leadership role in that local body of believers. For years we have responded and have given as directed by the Lord. Sadly, that giving has become public knowledge, and the local church was NOT the PRIMARY recepient of our stewardship. So, based upon our giving record to the church,it has been decided, that we are not tithing TO THE CHURCH and therefore we are excluded from leadership in the church. In the Pastor's words, our heart is where our treasure is and our treasure is not at the local church building. So here is the real issue at hand - should we be disqualified from leadership because we have given more to the Lord at ABC Ministry and less to the Lord at the local church? |

2 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | EdB | 22055
Mommapbs I believe many will disagree with this but let them show you scripture to prove their point. The rightly or wrongly the pastor has set down the rules. Now are you under subjection to him or not. If not then what are you doing at that church? Find out where God wants you and get there. If your sure God wants you at that church then follow the Pastor’s rules. Hebrews 13:17 Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. Notice it says the Pastor must give an account, you can’t answer for him nor can anyone on this forum, if God lead him to make such a rule then it is for you to obey. If God didn’t lead him to make such a rule then it is for him to explain his action to God for why forced such a rule on you. All you need to decide is this man your God given shepherd or not. Pray about it! EdB |

Support.............................. Greetings Ed! I agree with your advice. I too believe that there is no New Testament command to tithe! Having said that though, neither is there a New Testament command which forbids tithing. Therefore, it is a matter of choice. I happen to be attending a church where tithing is expected of it's members. Should I join, I would be expected to tithe. I have no problem with this, since I know upfront that this is an expectation of members. If I had a problem with it, then I should not join! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
