1 | Tithes into the storehouse | Mal 3:10 | retxar | 21867 | ||
Mal 3:10 says to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Does "the storehouse" mean one's own fellowship? Would money given to ministries outside your local fellowship count as part of your tithe? Paul told us to give regularly and proportionately (1Co_16:1-2). If I have chosen to give 10 percent regularly and proportionately would money I give outside my fellowship be considered part of that 10 percent? Thanks, retxar |

Does the the Old Testament storehouse describe your local church? I've researched this point this week for my own correction. My study revealed: The Old Testament "storehouse" served the function of providing for the Levites and priests and Jewish widows and orphans and Gentile poor. The storehouse leaders were responsible for apportionment to these groups. (Reference Nehemiah 12:44-45, 13:5,13; Numbers 18:24-29; Deuteronomy 14:28-29.) Today's correlative groups would be pastors/ministers, the local body's widows and orphans, and the larger community's poor. If your local church is serving these groups, then it meets the definition of the storehouse into which we are directed to bring the "whole" tithe, and Christ Himself upheld the principle of tithing in Matthew 23:23. A local church not fulfilling the role of the Old Testament storehouse is another excursion, but of a more personal nature. |
