1 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | stjohn | 211910
Sister Val, Indeed Scripture does say it is appointed for man to die once but there are many exceptions to this general rule. Many people have been raised from the dead Old and New Testament so Jonah's death and subsequent raising would not be a stretch by any means. By the way FYI McGee changed his view on this later on in his ministry, and said so on his thru the Bible radio show. John |

4 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | Val | 211928
John my friend, since you spoke that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that Jonah was dead I would like see your research, cross references, how they relate to Jonah and how you came to that conclusion, otherwise I would recommend that we agree to disagree. I have done an in-depth study of Jonah and from beginning to end I had questions regarding the text. I would not call that vacillating. That seems to be an insulting remark. Its is not a sin to disagree on difficult passages. It is a sin to attack a persons view and make insulting remarks. I know that is not what you meant. When making dogmatic statements the burden lies on the person to thoroughly explain their concluding statement with cross references, historical and cultural background and provide the consensus within the christian community for the statement. Dear Val, I'm sorry if my choice of words insulted you. You wrote: "I know what you mean I have changed my view back and forth too" The word "Vacillate" simply put, means to move from one position to another "back and forth". There is nothing derogatory about the usage of this word in the context in which it was used. If it came across as insulting to you I'm very sorry. Dogmatic? What part of "I think" is dogmatic? Val, I truly thought we were all just having a friendly discussion about this; if I came across as dogmatic or pushing my view, again, I am truly sorry. Val, I greatly appreciate your opinion and views on Scripture, and your post's have by and large all been very good, very thoughtful, and carefully done as far as I can tell, and I would not intentionally say something disparaging to you. On the contrary I'd be hard put to point to anyone who has had much more of a positive impact on this forum. As far as "proofs" no dear sister, Val, I cannot prove it, and I don't think I ever said that I could. Nether side can really be proven, but it is an interesting discussion, don't you think? :-) God bless John p.s. I'll do my best to dig up the MP3 with McGees statement, since you have seen fit to put this old man to task. :-) If I find it, I'll let you know. |
