1 | Was Paul Eloquent? | Ex 4:10 | EdB | 27074
I think many think Paul was not eloquent in his speech from remarks he made in 1 Cor. 2:1 "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God." Also as someone pointed out Peter remarked how hard Paul was to understand at times. However whether Paul was or was not eloquent does not excuse the speaker today from proper preparation and from constantly striving to improve. Many speakers today do a lousy job and then say oh well Paul wasn't any good either. This is not a valid excuse for a lousy job. We are to give God our best! EdB |

2 | Was Paul Eloquent? | Ex 4:10 | Hank | 27077
EdB, for a lazy preacher to offer the lame excuse for his inept performance that Paul wasn't any good either is the worst cop-out imaginable. If Paul "wasn't any good either" we'd be faced with the horrifying prospect of throwing out half of the New Testament. A preacher like the one you described should be flipping hamburgers at a fast-food joint, not hiding his laziness behind the cloth of his calling. --Hank
