1 | Satan.. man or not? | Ezek 28:12 | MrSock | 81021
Hello all ... i have been a Bible-believing born again Christian from age 4, and have only recently begun to question and test my faith. i'm putting it through the rigorous kind of testing that such devotion requires, because the idea that i've held blind faith for so many years unnerves me. Looking at these highlights of Satan, a Bible skeptic might find it suspicious that there are so many specific, explicit depictions in the New Testament, while the OT has only a handful of mentions. Beyond that, i've heard it said that Satan is mentioned only in the NT, while "the satan," an agent of God, is the one spoken of in Job. There is, of course, the serpent to lend credence. i find the King of Tyre passage too murky to make the call that Satan is a proper-noun fallen angel. You'd think that if there *were* a fallen angel named Satan who infects us and tempts us and stands as the main force of opposition to almighty God, the OT authors would've made a bigger deal about him beyond a few scant references. 2 | Satan.. man or not? | Ezek 28:12 | Jeanne1 | 81038
Satan was an angel, the most beloved of Gods angels...he decided he was going to be God, and that's when his name was changed and he was cast out, along with his crew. That's where we get the "legions" and such..It's good to know but not profitable for growth. I find - and this may not hold true for you - that everyday, I need to find something in the Word that relates to my day to day walk with the Lord and relates to what I do day to day. There is so much to learn to become what Jesus hopes us to be. Obedience, prayer, study, commitment, witnessing and I don't just mean talking - James talks about faith without works being dead faith. I am overwhelmed by the amount of things I need to learn, and am always grateful for a study that gives me something I can apply that day...and the next, and so on. As for where Satan came from, it's an interesting question....just a word to the wise, don't let all these exotic questions keep you from the growth thing. J |
