1 | where do animals go when they expire? | Eccl 3:21 | rabban | 191561
'We have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God' (1 Corinthians 2.12). 'He who is spiritual discerns all things, and he himself is judged of no man' (2 Corinthians 2.15). 'We have the mind of Christ' (2 Corinthians 2.16). These are but three Scriptures which make clear that through the Holy Spirit we receive God's direct illumination. Who are you going to make the arbiter of truth? A failing church which has distorted God's truth through the centuries? And which part of the church? Are we to look to Apollos? or Paul? or Peter? (1 Corinthians 1.12). Whose interpretation are we to follow? It was because we must look to the Holy Spirit to illuminate our own minds that 1 Corinthians 2 was written. Of course we seek the help of those who understand the Scriptures, (who all to some extent disagree), and learn from them, but each of us is in the end responsible for our own souls, and through the Holy Spirit, are responsible for our own understanding of Scripture. 2 Peter 1.20-21 is talking about the fact that what the prophets spoke was not 'privately interpreted' by them but was given to them by the Holy Spirit with the consequence that we can know it is the truth. We also then receive it through the illumination of the Holy Spirit Who interprets it to our hearts. 2 Timothy 2.15 says precisely that we are to rightly handle the word of truth, not leave someone else to handle it for us. We are in other words with the help of the Holy Spirit to ensure that we take it in context and not give it a meaning other than it has. And then pass it on in the same form. 'Your word (not the church) is a light to my way, and a lamp to my path' (Psalm 119.105). And in the end even the most ardent believer in the authority of the church interprets what he/she is taught in his own mind. It is the way in which we receive understanding. There is no other way. 2 | where do animals go when they expire? | Eccl 3:21 | Hank | 191598
Rabban - Are you saying essentially that each generation of individual Christians are to throw out the corpus of centuries-old teachings, confessions, and creeds (what we call orthodoxy, for want of a better name) and each in his own way proceed to re-invent the theological wheel? If not, what are you driving at? ...... By the way, now that you have amassed more than 50 posts on SBF, thus creating a certain interest in your ideas, would you mind going to the user profile page and tell us something about yourself, your core beliefs, your denominational connection, etc.? It always helps others on the Forum to understand where you stand and where you're going by learning where you're coming from. --Hank

4 | What about this teaching? | Eccl 3:21 | fellowlaborer | 191609
Praise the Lord Everybody. Thank God for His holy Word for His Word we can stand on. Just as most of us, we have opinions and I believe the Quaker historian Cadbury is entitled to his. Yet allow me to magnify the Lord -- God's Word is more than a book or a record. John 1:1,14 (and I'm just basking on the shore) In the beginnning was the Word and the Word was God and the Word is God... I will say the quotation noted with the question is not biblically sound. Matt 5:8 For heaven and earth shall pass away But God's Word shall Stand... God bless you - let's bless Him at all times.

Amen, Fellowlaborer. Amen! The question you responded to was out of line, but your response was right on target! Thank you and God bless. --Hank
6 | What about this teaching? | Eccl 3:21 | Parable | 191613
My question related specifically to the question you raised, Hank. That is, in response to rabban's post, you asked if we are to discard previous teachings. The teaching I presented demonstrates that in some cases, we already have. Given this clarification, do you still feel my post was "out of line"? If yes, why? For those interested in my concern, I note that my post has been erased. |

7 | What about this teaching? | Eccl 3:21 | DocTrinsograce | 191615
Dear Parable, An erased post would seem to indicate that our host, Lockman, decided that you were espousing things contrary to the terms under which we each enjoy the privileges of forum participation. It might be wise to review their terms of use, in an effort to ferret out the root of your deviation, so that you can continue to contribute unimpeded. Meanwhile, the rest of us -- it is hoped -- will watch and learn, to the betterment of the forum as a whole. I believe it was Benjamin Franklin who asserted, "Wise men learn from other's mistakes. Fools hardly learn from their own." (His expression was, no doubt, rooted in a familiarity with Proverbs.) In Him, Doc |

Doc, One would hope that the moderation process was as you say. However, it has yet to be shown that this is the case. I eagerly await a response from both the Study Bible Forum Team, and now their corporate sponsors at Lockman, for an explanation of how I have deviated from their guidelines. I do this not to be adversarial, but rather so I may understand their complaint. This is because I believe my posts were interpreted in a way that is not justified, but rather reactionary. If I am in need of correction, I am open to that, yet to date, no one has extended me the grace necessary to describe how my posts are not consistent with forum guidelines, especially when compared to my other posts or those of others who determine to explore those questions that call for application of biblical principles in addition to merely citing relevant verses. |

That was a quick review indeed! If neither the advice of peers nor introspection is adequate to the task, I rather doubt the effectiveness of further admonition, regardless of its source.
10 | What about this teaching? | Eccl 3:21 | Parable | 191620
My concern is about diversity of opinion within the boundaries of propriety and the exercise of discretionary authority, both of which are highly relevent bible topics. If I have exceeded those boundaries, fine, I will recant. If not, perhaps there is a need for more humility in how my posts are interpreted. |
