1 | Why the spotlight on gays? | Prov 6:16 | DocTrinsograce | 142246
On considering this question more closely, I am persuaded that we as believers are at fault for homosexuality in our nation. It will only begin to be resolved by repentance in the church, not the government, not the secular world, not the homosexuals themselves. If you are a believer, I encourage you to read the following article. It statest things much more clearly than might I. It is written by two pastors, Douglas Jones and Douglas Williams. http://www.credenda.org/issues/16-2memorandum.php May God have mercy on us and grant us repentance. In Him, Doc PS Comments and discussion are welcome and encouraged. |

2 | Why the spotlight on gays? | Prov 6:16 | EdB | 142269
Interesting read and while the church in my opinion has fallen far short of its calling, and has much to repent for, I think to place any blame for homosexuality on it is stretch. I realize the current trend is to seek to blame anything or anybody but the person caught up in the sin and I think this is yet another example. Could not the problem be sin? Genuine and personal sin? Sin that rebels from the normal and tries to call the abnormal normal. True there are many things that play into this, a society that prompts the over glamorization of sex, of self indulgence and of pleasure seeking, coupled with a diminished sense of right and wrong? Add further the constant portrayal that eliminates or minimizes love, relationship and procreation as part of the sex act, showing "normal" sex as little more than a one night stand done on a whim for nothing more than the physical pleasure it affords. Add further to this mix the day to day barrage from TV, Radio, media that alternate lifestyles is not only self fulfilling but by participating you show yourself to be more intellectual, more tolerant, more compassionate, more willing to be a "risk" taker. Then teach evolution, that we evolved from animals and our sexual nature is an instinct. How or why hold us accountable for something that is inborn and natural, does not the animal world show degrees of homosexuality? Lastly add still one more ingredient, it is not the homosexuals fault, they were either born that way, their parents did it, God did it or now the church did it. But the fact is on judgment day each will stand before God and all the factors mentioned above will not accepted as justification. As I said I will agree the church has much to repent for, however I don't think Romans 1 is saying homosexuality is the curse of Godlessness but rather it is saying that is the result. EdB |

EdB, Well put brother. I wouldnt go as far as to say that homosexuality is the fault of the church. But I do agree with your last statement,it is the result of Godlessnes. I think what has really hurt the church over the years we have went from one extreme to another. From being super hardline and legalistic to being super liberal and soft about how we deal with sin. Here it is. Jesus loved people and hated the sin.Sounds simplistic but it's true. We can love people without condoning there sin. Jesus did,so can we. If we truly love people as Jesus did then we will do whatever it takes. It will mean loving people no matter how they respond to us,it will mean asking the hard questions even if it pains us or those we reach out to. I remember the brothers that studied the bible with me and who helped lead me to the Lord, there were a lot of hard painful questions asked, but it got my heart and life out into the open. I'm glad though because enabled God to deal with my heart. I would not be a disciple of Jesus Christ today if not. Are we willing to do the same today? I'm glad that God brought people into my life who were willing to do so. In Christ, lionheart |
