Bible Note: I never said God didn't turn them over to reprobate mind. Did I? I never said we haven't lost a sense of corporate guilt. Did I? How does these two statement relate to what I said? Let us look at the New Living Translation on this. Romans 1:21-25 (NLT) 21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn't worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. The result was that their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became utter fools instead. 23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people, or birds and animals and snakes. 24 So God let them go ahead and do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies. 25 Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies. So they worshiped the things God made but not the Creator himself, who is to be praised forever. Amen. This is an individual failure rather than the failure of the church. It is the responsibility of the individual to worship God in spirit and in truth. The common denominator in all of this was the attitude of the individuals not the church. If people are seeking God and draw near God will draw near to them. On the other hand if they want to make God in their own image, worship what they have created rather than the creator then God will withdraw and allow them to be totally deceived. People in their wisdom have changed God from a loving God to an oppressor, from a just God into an unjust god, from the God of creation into the god of evolution, from a Holy God to a god that winks at sin. Yes the church has problems but the hypothesis this article presents, improperly tries to shift an individual sin to a corporate failure. The assumptions made are bases on what amounts to incorrect exegesis of the scriptures referenced, taking them out of context to support the position of the authors. EdB |
