JdthCstl, what Scripture says "By our deeds"? Eph 2:8-9 says "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; NOT AS A RESULT OF WORKS, so that no one may boast." |

I do not know of any verse that specifically says "by your deeds." I think some have come to be confused with the faith verses works idea in reading James. James has been said to contradict Eph 2:8-9 because he says things like "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?" (James 2:14, NIV). But I think what James is refering to here is exemplifying our faith in our actions. For example if one says that he/she has faith that it's God's will for him/her to speak on His behalf to a particular person. However, when the opportunity presents itself it is not taken advantage of, then that person is merely stating that they have faith in that, as oppose to truly having faith. | ||||||

Scripture ... Eph 2:8-10; Jam 2:14-26; 1 Jhn 1:5-2:14 ... JdthCstl, The faith in James 2:14-26 is not saving faith, but useless (vs 20), demonic (vv 18b-19) and dead (vv 17, 26). Notice one only claims to have faith (vs 14), it never says he has faith. Read 1 John 1:5-2:14 -- just because one says something doesn't make it so. The James passage is also supported by Eph 2:10, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Read it with verses 8-9 and you'll see that works (deeds) do not save ... but is the result of our salvation. No or incorrect Bibilical is heresy. Please correct your thinking. Always check out what anyone says against the Bible (Acts 17:11) ... even ask them for Bibilical support, if they do not give it. Hope this helps, Searcher PS Listen to the wisdom of Makarios, as well. |
