1 | Ever Doubt God's Existence? | Gen 3:1 | Janice C. | 78174
Anyone out there ever doubt God's existence? Just one day and for no reason, the thought entered my mind that is there really a God and, if so, who created Him? In all my adults years, the thought never entered my mind to doubt God's existence until a few months ago. What happened? Are there any scriptures that teach God can cause one to have a change of heart or become a nonbeliever in our Maker? I am deeply worried. I still attend worship service because for the most part, I do and want very much to believe in His existence. Any encouragment will be so much appreciated. Atheist need not reply.
2 | Ever Doubt God's Existence? | Gen 3:1 | Taleb | 78175
Yes, I have. I honestly doubt if there is anybody who HASN’T either doubted God’s existence or if what He said is really true. The first Scripture that comes to mind is Gen 3. Yup, from the beginning people have “questioned God”, if you will. Satan is the father of lies and has been a liar from day one. His lies to Eve caused her to wonder if everything she KNEW was true really was true. Don’t forget she walked with God in the garden. Talk about not having any reason to doubt, but doubt she did. Growing up, my “bet” (not the right word, but…) is that you doubted a lot of things your teacher, parents, siblings told you – even though they really were true. So, while we can’t “see God” we do have seasons of doubt. Those are the times for us to take seriously what Paul wrote in 2 Cor. 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but MIGHTY THROUGH GOD to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exhalteth itself AGAINST the knowledge of God (YOUR SITUATION), and bringing into captivity EVERY thought to the obedience of Christ.” And don’t forget – God believes in you! Thank you, Taleb, for replying. The scripture you provided is most helpful. It seems as though I've read in the NT where God can cause you to have a change of heart for whatever reason He has. Is this corect? Do you know of the scriptures I am speaking of? Thru prayers, I have expressed my desire to know if He hears my prayers and considers me His child. I am faithful in attending Sunday worship services and Wednesday night Bible study. And, attend a Thursday night ladies' Bible study when possible I am not one who believes, "once saved, always saved", and know the Bible's commandments and plan of salvation to which I make every effort to follow. It's this unexpected and unwanted curiosity of His existence, I fear, will cost me my soul if I don't find answers. For the most part, I do and want very much to believe in Him, but there's just this tiny bit of curiosity. Please reply. God bless you, sir.

What a thrill to hear my words helped. Please accept my apologies for such a “late” response. I use more than one computer, depending on where I am during the day (or night), and, although from time to time I "spotted" a posting, to which I responded, yours was waiting at home for me. While I can’t think of any particular verse, although there are a few that you “might” be referring to, please allow me to address the rest of your note. Being “faithful” in attendance is wonderful. Remain faithful to them, AND “faithful” with your relationship with Him. As far “making every effort to follow …” bear in mind 1 John 3:18-24. (It’s sometimes hard to “pull and use” Scriptures, but I feel these might help.) “… let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we KNOW that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For IF our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. And this is His commandment, That we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment. And He that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby WE KNOW that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.” Respectfully, Taleb |
