Hi, Lionstrong... Having the name of a thing is a kind of dominion. A label is the means by which we invoke the character and nature of a thing. It certainly represents the beginning of being able to envelope a thing intellectually. It is difficult to imagine our ability to domesticate animals without having the ability to reference their kind by a name by which they are called. I do not think that the naming of the animals was a matter of God taking some kind of shortcut. Rather the process of seeing, characterizing, and naming creatures brought man close to God's creation -- which thing increases God's glory. In Him, Doc |

Keep in mind the Hebrew (the language Adam was thought to speak) names were more descriptive of the animal than the English names. Like commonly seen in Latin the original languages names were combination of words and sounds that described the physical appearance or nature of the animal. Example snake or serpent in Hebrew comes from a word in Hebrew that means to "hiss" |
