I tend to lean toward the "gap theory". As far as the age of the earth goes, I do know that the Hebrew word translated "day" is used other places in the Bible for longer periods of time. Although God could certainly create the universe in 6 actual days, I think there may be a problem with the translation into English. The important thing is that God really did create the universe and I'm not to concerned about how He did it. What I find interesting is that no matter what theories the scientist come up with it always leads back to the need for a creator. | ||||||

Hi garym1952, You think "there may be a problem with the translation into English."? Could you share with us your background and experience in translation of the Hebrew language into English? The problem is when a Christian accepts the teachings of the ungodly. If you take note of those who push the gap theory, the only way they can make it work is to reject what is taught in scripture. There seems to be something inherently wrong with accepting the theories of mankind over the word of God wouldn't you agree? Scripture says Genesis 1:5 "...And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. " Genesis 1:8 "...And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. " Genesis 1:13 "And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. " Genesis 1:19 "And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day." Genesis 1:23 "And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. " Genesis 1:31 "...And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. " Exodus 20:8-11 (NASB) 8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. Have you ever considered other scripture that you would have to discard to establish the gap theory as legit? Steve |
