abccan: Having read your initial question and your subsequent responses that neither the opening chapters of Genesis nor the opening verses of the Gospel of John answer your question, I'm baffled that you appear to find them inadequate. I suggest you explain exactly what you're looking for. The Bible teaches in Genesis, John, and elsewhere that God created the universe ex nihilo, i.e., from nothing. There was no life on earth before God created life (Genesis 1:2). God spoke and grass came into being (Gen. 1:11). Grass is a living thing. God spoke and sea creatures and fowl came into being (Gen. 1:20-22). Sea creatures and fowl are living things. God spoke and land creatures came into being (Gen. 1:24,25. Land creatures are living things. Finally, God created man in His own image (Gen. 1:26-28). Man is a living being. ...... So, friend, if this doesn't convince you that God created life, I don't know what would. --Hank

I believe I have responded to what you are saying. I am not disputing that living THINGS were created. What I am saying is that LIFE is not a THING. Just like LOVE is not a thing and that does not mean that there are no living and loving human beings. Before we will ever know that LOVE, Harmony, Talent ... exist, it has to be expressed since these atributes of God by themselves are invisible. |

abccan - In response to your response to me, I decline to speculate with you, but simply will reiterate the advice Doc gave you, which is to join us in Bible study or join a philosophical web site. On pain of being blunt, I will say to you frankly that on this Forum, sincere Bible study is in, but philosophical musings are most definitely out. What this means to you is this: define your purpose and decide what you want to do. If it is to study God's word (study, not speculate on), then stay here at Study Bible Forum. If it is to chew around on philosophical musings, go somewhere else, please. That's the way it is, so make your choice. --Hank
