Question: Was Melchizedek Jesus ? Short Answer: No, Melchizedek is/was not Jesus. Full answer: Following are two of the best online references to answer your question that I found. (http://bible1.crosswalk.com/Encyclopedias/CondensedBiblicalCyclopedia/) At this website click on the word "Melchizedek". (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Commentaries/JamiesonFaussetBrown/) At this website, click on Hebrews, then click on Chapter 7. [I apologize for the fact that nowhere does my answer contain the phrase "I believe that...". It doesn't make any difference what you believe, what I believe, or what anyone else believes. The only thing that matters is what the Bible actually says and teaches. All else is nothing more than mere speculation masquerading as fact.] Grace to you, Kalos |

3 | Who is Melchizedek? | Gen 14:18 | EdB | 147006
Kalos Let me say something here and I'm not trying to bust your chops just trying to show everyone that unless the Bible specifically answers our question we shouldn’t be so dogmatic not to even consider another point of view. Where scripture is silent instead of calling something wrong we should at least allow for the consideration of other views as long as they don’t violate true Biblical doctrine. In your reply you gave two references. Both are highly respected and both are to be considered. However they are both merely the opinions of the man that wrote them. You were right you didn’t offer your opinion but you did offer the opinion of the authors of these references. The Bible is silent on Melchizedek's lineage, more importantly it is silent on who Melchizedek wasn’t. We know very little about Melchizedek while I don’t personally think this was a reincarnate glimpse of Christ there is nothing that says it wasn’t. The only true answer to this question is, some think Melchizedek as a man who was used of God etc. However there are others that think Melchizedek was a pre-incarnate glimpse of Jesus however there is very little if any scriptural evidence to support that position. Perhaps if we would give room for other theories while showing the strengths of ours it would make this forum more conducive to learning and less to debate. Kalos please forgive me for using your post as my example but it just lent itself so perfectly. By using Kalos' post I in no way meant to demean or denigrate his post. Kalos posts are always of the highest quality and always contain outstanding substance. What I was trying to demonstrate is something we "ALL" are guilty of. Brother if I offended you please forgive me. EdB |

EdB: You have not offended me in any way, brother. No problem. :-) Maybe I overstated or mis-stated my case. Let me put it this way: Where the Bible is silent we do not want to shout. I would agree that where the Bible is silent on a question, one guess is as good as another. But that's all it is -- a guess. I would be extremely careful about building a doctrine on what the Bible does not say. May you be blessed, Kalos |

5 | Who is Melchizedek? | Gen 14:18 | EdB | 147064
Kalos Amen, However I think both you and I already knew this. I was hoping others would read it and learn. On the forum we are seeing far too much in the way of opinion being stated as dogmatic fact. Unless the Bible specifically addresses the issue most of us would be better off if we remained silent. For those that do know and understand the various postions they should step forth and present ALL views of the issue. EdB |

Well, brethren, let's see. What actual Bible FACTS do we have about this elusive Melchizedek himself? Not so many that we couldn't carry them in a shirt pocket. His name appears in 10 verses of Scripture: one in Genesis, one in Psalms, and eight in Hebrews. All these verses can be viewed in a jiffy by typing in Melchizedek in the Bible Search at the right of this screen. We know that Melchizedek was (1) king of Salem, (2) a priest of God, and (3) that he met and blessed Abraham. These are the facts in the matter. So how many other facts do we have about him? They're mighty scare, brother. Oh, we can state positively and with vigor whatever we want to about old Mel, I suppose, as long as it doesn't bother us a heap to take a giant leap from fact to fiction. The Bible doesn't much about Melchizedek, so how much does anyone know about him? Not much, I'm afraid. Not much. Case closed. And to all a good night. --Hank
