1 | Pragmatism is of the World | Job 21:15 | Country Girl | 129516
I acknowledge what you're saying about the world's obsession with being practical and of course we're all in agreement our first priority is make God, King of our lives. But with that as a given, it does seem that Jesus did use some basic principles of pragmatism with so much talk about parables and "applying Heavenly concepts to earthly stories." Matt 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matt 7:8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matt 7:9 "Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Matt 7:10 "Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? Matt 7:11 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! Here we see Jesus contrasting His Father to our earthly fathers. So of course, we shouldn't let someone take this tendency toward the practical too far but it too does have some value to our understanding of christianity in this modern world. Lastly, I'll agree wholeheartedly we can't possibly improve on His Word and the Guidance therein for every facet of life. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

When's the coronation ceremony and where shall we all meet to "make" God King? [Let's not tell Him; let's just surprise Him] --Hank

Hank, you are in "rare form!" BTW, where is Nolan (Makarios) these days - did you grant him a leave of absence? I knew he was getting married, perhaps this explains his lack of participation? Blessings to you and yours! PS: Please excuse my absence from the Forum from August 25 until September 7. Our second son is being married and I will be out of town without any internet! |
