1 | How did the Trinity concept come to be? | Acts | Reformer Joe | 49471
It wasn't Oneness that was being condemned at Nicea. It was Arianism, the idea that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are not God at all. Oneness (the idea that Jesus Christ is the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit) did have its modern-day origins thanks to a "revelation" at a camp meeting in the early part of the 20th century. If you have historical information that shows that Oneness was some kind of long-term belief that was keeping a low profile due to fear of death and persecution, please provide it for the forum. --Joe! |

Being called a heritic was alot more dangerous and had alot more consquence that it is today! ICor For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. It says God gave Jesus authority many times, it also says the Spirit goes back to God upon death, (which is an enemy). These are reason's I have trouble with the Trinity as most people see it. I do beleive Jesus was in heaven prior to his earthly life. |

Where does it say that the Holy Spirit "goes back to God upon death"? --Joe! |

Eccles 12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. 7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. 8 Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher all is vanity. Mat. 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit, and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. 47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. The holy spirit or spirit of, or from God, or spirit of the lord were not capitalized in the original text or most verses in the old testiment. They are still in lower case. And I do know the difference between soul and spirit. |

The Trinity is not a concept, but rather a noted fact. In that before the ceation of the world there was the Father, the Son-Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This is the triune being or nature of the God-head.
