1 | Can a person push God too far?? | Luke | Hank | 55056
Scribe: You wrote: "I often wonder exactly what my baptist friends mean (not saying you are baptist) when they say similar statements." --- I assume you are referring to my statement about the eternal security of the believer. --- Wonder no more. I'm a Baptist [SBC] and I will tell you. We teach that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are secure in Christ forever. Scriptural references: John 5:24; 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom.5:9,10; 8:1, 31-39; 1 Cor.1:4-9; Eph.4:30; Heb.7:25; 13:5; 1 Pet.1:4,5; Jude 24. ......... Yes, indeed I was referring to New Testament teaching when I posted about backsliders, although I used the word "Scripture" and should have used "New Testament" instead. The word "backslider" appears in the Old Testament 16 times in the KJV, 12 of them in Jeremiah. It appears only twice in the NASB, however -- in Prov. 14:14 and Jer.49:4. In most of the passages in which the KJV uses "backslider" the NASB uses either "faithless" or "apostasy." The word does not appear in the New Testament. --Hank

Hank: Thank you for this accurate, straightforward information: "The word [backslider] does not appear in the New Testament." I have repeatedly asked the question: Does the word "backslide" or "backsliding" appear in the NT? You would think I was asking someone to explain the theory of relativity in laymen's terms. The simple and only accurate answer is "No, the word does not appear in the NT." Anyone with access to a concordance (in print or online) could have found the correct answer to my question in less than 5 minutes. This is not rocket science. So again, Hank, I thank you for your accurate answer. |
