1 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | azurelaw | 194707 | ||
Dear Miller, I have read your post. If I understand it correctly, "seed of faith" usually involves monetary tithing (please correct me if I am wrong), and here are my understanding in concern with the scriptures you quoted: Luke 6:38 The context of the scripture does not talk about tithing. You can trace back to v30 and onward, it talks about how we should show our mercy and kindness to people. Luke 18:28-30 This also does not address the sense of tithing but Jesus requires his followers to be self-sacrifice (Rom 12:1). 2 Cor 9:6-8 The key verse should be "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver" This is pretty clear that it is not a must to tithe. (but of course a true christian could never use it as an excuse for not tithing). For Mal 3:10, I am sorry I need to dig further to it. However, it seems to me from what you have quoted here are pretty much out of the context, which is not an appropriate method of bible study. I believe that is how the "seed-faith" derived from the WOF that the teachers picking a scripture here and there in support of their movement and their focus on the reward. I believe it is dangerous, too. Believer will be led to focus on the result and their faith will be so much tied to the outcome thus limiting (within their own mind) God's grace as in the result-oriented aspect. Hope I have adressed my points clear. Shalom Azure |

And you have addresed your concern cleary, I hope I've cleared up the fact that seed-faith as I talk about it, is not only tithe that I mean, I mean all that you give. And one point I'd like to ask about, is you said that you believe teaching it the way I do would make people look to the end result and not do it to honor God. I understand that can happen, but just like the scriptures tells us that if we love God and keep his commandments, he will manifest himself to us, some people could take that and say well I will only walk in Love because I want to see Jesus, instead of doing it, simply because Love is what would please him. Anyway we slice it, it seems that we can have times when people want to use scripture and be selfish with it. HOwever its not our job to not speak the word because of how some might take it. For instance, some get mad when you say homosexuality is a sin, but we can't stop preaching it. |

Dear Miller, I would say that instead of preaching the end result or reward brought to us when we give / tithe, I'd rather focus on the greatest reward that has been given to us already by Saviour Jesus Christ. What can we expect more but just Jesus himself. Shalom Azure |

Azure, If all you want to do is preach the need for salvation that is fine, and if thats the ministry God has called you to, then way to go. However as for me, I preaach that, as well as the entire Bible, I know some preachers who nver preach on end times because they aren't called to do so, and some preach on it way more than most preachers. However we must remember that just because thats not what you'd watn to focus on, doens't mean its wrong for some other preacher to focus on. God Bless. |
