Greetings Timothy Paul! I agree with your assessment of the original NIV as an excellent Bible to use. It was the first Bible that I had ever used, and I am part of an entire new generation of Christians who were raised using the NIV instead of the KJV. The NIV was completed and released in its entirety in either 1978 or 1984 (probably both years), and it now stands as being 24 or 18 years old. In comparison, the KJV is 391 years old, and (as you have pointed out) there is a vocal group who opposes the use of any translation save the KJV. However, the 'old English' that was used in the translation of the 1611 KJV has been out of date for a century. If we compare 391 years to 18 (or 24) years, we beg to ask the question: Has today's language so drastically changed and abandoned that which is presented in the original NIV that the need has arisen and become obvious that the original NIV needs to be updated? I strongly disagree with the stance that states that English has so irreversably changed over 20 years to the degree that the original NIV has become incomprehensible and "misleading." If anything is misleading, then it is the fact that Zondervan/IBS has reneged on their 1997 promise not to publish a "gender inclusive" version of the NIV. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Colin, Yes, I have seen those links before, but neither they nor any material that they contain could ever persuade me on the subject of the TNIV. I have many links that I can share with you regarding "translating" questions.. http://cbmw.org http://www.cezwright.com/books/versions.htm http://www.bible-researcher.com/links12.html http://www.skypoint.com/(tilde)waltzmn/CanonsOfCrit.html http://www.zianet.com/maxey/versions.htm http://www.bible-researcher.com Here are a few, just off the top of my list.. Makarios, I'm not interested in either TNIV or NIV. I read KJV and NASV primarily; you just cannot beat the KJV for lingo, or the NASV's cross-references. Romans is amazing in the NASV, don't you think? It just comes right at you. Gracias por los links, amigo. Colin. | ||||||
