Why did God give Adam and Eve the instruction not to eat from the "tree of knowledge" ? Was it not for a test of obedience ? If so, then why do so many Christians argue so stongly that we are no longer reuired to be obedient to God's instuctions ?
2 | Why did God test Adam and Eve ? | Genesis | fatherof3 | 153482
The tree was of the knowledge of good and evil. Evil already existed in the sense that with light you also have darkness at its abscence.God placed the tree there , not as a test, but as a symbol of His knowledge and standing being above ours.(Proverbs 3:5,6, Isaiah 55)He knew what evil was all about. We didn't have to experience evil to be aware of it. It was if He was saying, Trust me--you don't want to experience it first hand. Take my word, it does exist. Satan came along and appealed to her to not trust God, as if He were somehow holding something back from her. Distrust was planted by Satan's deception and sin was born. Faith has and always will be the issue. Our obedience stems from faith, and disobedience from distrust.
3 | Why did God test Adam and Eve ? | Genesis | swerv | 153622
Yes - faith in God means we trust Him. But when God says not to do something - it is a command to test our obedience. Just like when the Moses led the people out of Edgypt - the very first thing God did was to "test" them if they would keep His Sabbath. Since sin entered the universe through Satan - God must test our faithfulness by His laws. God loves all people but only our love and obedience will show God we do not choose sin but rather His love.
