Bible Question: Why did God give Adam and Eve the instruction not to eat from the "tree of knowledge" ? Was it not for a test of obedience ? If so, then why do so many Christians argue so stongly that we are no longer reuired to be obedient to God's instuctions ? |
Bible Answer: The tree was of the knowledge of good and evil. Evil already existed in the sense that with light you also have darkness at its abscence.God placed the tree there , not as a test, but as a symbol of His knowledge and standing being above ours.(Proverbs 3:5,6, Isaiah 55)He knew what evil was all about. We didn't have to experience evil to be aware of it. It was if He was saying, Trust me--you don't want to experience it first hand. Take my word, it does exist. Satan came along and appealed to her to not trust God, as if He were somehow holding something back from her. Distrust was planted by Satan's deception and sin was born. Faith has and always will be the issue. Our obedience stems from faith, and disobedience from distrust. |
