Sctt: Hermeneutics is the science of biblical interpretation which involves the establishment and recognition of sound principles which govern the practice of exegesis, and exegesis is the study of the text of Scripture in order to bring out the meaning of it. This is to be distinguished from the error of eisegesis, which is the interpretation of a text by reading into it one's own ideas. When a student of the Bible consistently forms interpretative conclusions that are at variance with the conclusions that serious Bible scholars have agreed upon for hundreds, even thousands, of years, it is fairly obvious that that student has fallen into the error of eisegesis. What is of far more importance than merely forming an opinion on something -- that's easy and comes cheap -- is the soundness of the methods and resources used that gave birth to the opinion. An interpretative opinion of Scripture arrived at by eisegesis is worthless. Moreover, it should not be afforded a place on a public Bible-study forum lest it lead someone away from, not toward, the truth of God's word. --Hank

Hi Hank You write When a student of the Bible consistently forms interpretative conclusions that are at variance with the conclusions that serious Bible scholars have agreed upon for hundreds, even thousands, of years, it is fairly obvious that that student has fallen into the error of eisegesis. Do you believe evrything the bible scholars teach? The Jews in the time of Jesus had 4000yrs of teaching but still stumbled when Jesus came because they believed He would come as a lion they did not understand that He would have to come as a lamb first even though it was written in the scriptures. I to value alot of what these scholars say but I do not believe they knew eveything and in some cases are wrong in their interpitation of the scriptures even as the Jews were. Now you say that I should not write what I beleive on this forum because it may lead someone astray. Now I would not lead anyone to beleive that Jesus Christ was not the son of God and that He did not die for our sins for I believe He is and did. But I will challange the interpitation of the what some people beleive the scriptures to say and it is your right to challange my interpitation of the scriptures. Am I always right in my interpitation of what the scriptures say , no! are you no! I not here to create a division among Gods people I came to this site to reason the scripture among brothers and sisters. If you do not beleive what I have written I would be more then happy to reason out with you(all)the scriptures. In Christ Scott
