142 Is there a Theological name for this? Bible general Archive 3 justme 191270
After rereading the articles on Calvinism and Arminianism, I find there are parts of both I agree with, and parts of both I do not agree with.
I NOT WANTING TO DISCUSS EITHER AND VIOLATE THE FORUM RUELS.
My question is is there a name for those who would think each view has some worthy points? I mean besides just nuts. Is there a theological term for this? Thanks and blessings.

145 Witness or Culture follower 1 Chr 19:5 justme 190864
kalos: I think a carnal believer can and will do what ever they are drawn to. The beard thing is pretty legalistic. If men adapted to the culture they live in, without considering their witness to the world, who would be able to change the world. Actions sometimes speak louder than words.
We have lots of black horse drawn buggies near us, and there is no doubt what they believe, as they have made a huge statement, they are not of this present culture, or of the world. This is extreme, and I would not do this, but we have become friends with several Amish families. They live their faith for all to see.
How do we live our faith so others see.
146 Study Bible Forum, questions? Prov 27:22 justme 190829
I am amazed! I just counted the number of responses to "Should a Christian man wear a beard?" Would you believe 32 responses!
When a question like this gets so much attention and yet questions that are about the Bible are given little or no attention, SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG !
Why tell someone to look up some topic in the Search box, and ignore a personal response? What is the justification to spend so much time on such a meaningless topic, like wearing a beard?
Pardon me, as I do not want to offend anyone, but this is a prime example of meaningless trival subjects taking the priority over genuine Biblical questions.
Next time we are tempted to refer someone with a question to the search box, maybe a personal response would be in order rather then just no real interaction.
For the sake of more notes on the subject I have had a beard for 18 years.

147 Why the NKJV over the NASB ? Bible general Archive 3 justme 189739
I live in the center of Missouri, known as the "Bible belt". The question I have is, the majority of Christian Book stores are stocking mainly NIV and the NKJV. In the book store I use most has said that the NASB does not sell, and that most churches are going to the NKJV.
I find that the NKJV is not near the indepth Bible as the NASB.
Does the NASB not selling as well as the NKJV, seem to be in this part of the country or is this a nation wide experience. Why do you think this is taking place. Thank you for taking the time to answer this question. Blessings.

148 The APOCALYPSE CODE. Bible general Archive 3 justme 189741
I just finished reading THE APOCALYPSE CODE, by Hank Hanegraaff. Has anyone else read this book? If you have read it how did you think about his Biblical conclusions?
Scripture says we are to search the Scriptures and I would like a second opinion or a third or maybe more. Blessings.

151 Asking many to pray for us? Eccl 4:12 justme 188871
Is having many believers pray for a person, more effective that person praying for him or her self? Is not the prayer of believer asking that he or she be in the center of the will God, just as strong. Do we as Christians not understand prayer and feel we need numbers praying to touch the Holy Father?
If as Scripture says if we had the faith of a mustard seed we could move mountians, then where we do get we need lots of people praying to get the Lord to do as we ask?

153 What do we focus on? 1 Cor 12:13 justme 183425
Jeff: Denominations are made up of believers, or at least they say they are believers. Just as there are no perfect Christians, churches, or denominations, everything falls short of what God would expect. I have heard much criticism of denominations for many years. Rarely have I heard how a denomination has done so much in the name of Jesus and there is praise for the denominations. But, the denominations I have been involved with have done much to show genuine Christian love and reach out to the unloveable, feed the poor and clothe, shelter, and provide for those in need. In times of national crisis, be it fire, storms, war. or whatever the need there are those denominations that have been there in the name of Jesus.
The Souther Baptis have made more meals in the USA in the last two years than any organization. In Bolivia in 1982 when the country was in a general strike when some independant missionaries has no way to get food or fuel. The Canada Missions board sent supplies to help the coworkers in Christ. Ther have been times when independant missionaries had no money for a return flight home that other brethern in Christ belonging to denominations stepped in and brought them home. I have nothing against nondenominational churches or misssion work. But, I am very supportive of at least the denominations I have belonged to.
Yes Jeff, there are tares of many kinds. I personally focus on the good that is been done and being done, and not on the negative. I see the end where Christ and His bride are together for eternity, not the evil one that overcomes us.
I may well see the glass half full. I don't spend much effort on the empty side of the glass. Blessings Jeff.

155 Is the Greek-English an older version? Matt 24:7 justme 177811
Mark: After researching with all my "tools" I came to that conclusion, on my own, but wanted a more informed answer.
But why does the Greek-English NT I have have Strongs 3061 as a referance. I believe this is post 1940 or ealier Greek-English text?
Thanks again Mark.

156 Matthew 24:7 missing word? Matt 24:7 justme 177808
In the Greek New Testament, Matthew 24:7 ".....and there will be famines and plagues and earthquakes...." The KJV says "....there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes,...." The NASB "....there will befamines and earthquakes." In reasearching this verse after looking into many ranslations, the word "plagues" and or "pestilences" has been removed. Yet in the Inerlinear Greek-English NEW TESTAMENT by J p. Green the word "plagues" is there with the Strong's Concordance number of 3061.
I have great respect for the translators of the NASB and the ESV, and both have no reference to either "Plagues" or "pestilences". The NIV also leaves of the reference of either word.
After spending most of this morning looking for reason for the absence of the two words, I have reached a dead end in my study. Can anyone give me a clue as to what the reason is for not using either of the words in more recent translations. The only thing I can think of would be that in early manuscripst neither word is present. But, that's only my guess.
Thank's for your help.

157 CHRISTIANITY TODAY ARTICLE John 3:16 justme 176536

I AM NOT WANTING TO DISCUSS THESE VIEWS, JUST FIND A SOURCE FOR THE OPPOSITE VIEW.
158 Christian Nurture? John 1:12 justme 172439
Hobbs: Thanks for your response, this is not an easy question to answer. Children develope differently even though they may be the same age. The developement of cognitive and abstract thinking are age issues that enter into relating salvation to children. There are several Christian writers who have attempted to show how Christians develope into maturity. James W Fowler has written two excellent books, FAITH DEVELOPEMENT and STAGES OF FAITH. There is a suggestion that children are nutured into salvation. Being so nurtured in the Lord and Scripture are such a part of their developement they grow into salvation, knowing what sin is and who Jesus was and is. This has some valid ideas and is worthy of further consideration. What are your thoughts? Blessings.

160 The new "BOOK OF JUDAS"? Bible general Archive 3 justme 170337
The Big News yesterday was the "Book of JUDAS" that was found. I am amazed at the liberal "Biblical Schollars" and their remarks saying Judas was Jesus' friend.
None of us has read the trabslated text, yet so many non religious NEWS REPORTERS are all shouting that Judas has now been picked out as evil wrongly in Christian history.
How con we make this into a positive situationto introduce others to Christ?
