Bible Question (short): Matthew 24:7 missing word? |
Question (full): In the Greek New Testament, Matthew 24:7 ".....and there will be famines and plagues and earthquakes...." The KJV says "....there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes,...." The NASB "....there will befamines and earthquakes." In reasearching this verse after looking into many ranslations, the word "plagues" and or "pestilences" has been removed. Yet in the Inerlinear Greek-English NEW TESTAMENT by J p. Green the word "plagues" is there with the Strong's Concordance number of 3061. I have great respect for the translators of the NASB and the ESV, and both have no reference to either "Plagues" or "pestilences". The NIV also leaves of the reference of either word. After spending most of this morning looking for reason for the absence of the two words, I have reached a dead end in my study. Can anyone give me a clue as to what the reason is for not using either of the words in more recent translations. The only thing I can think of would be that in early manuscripst neither word is present. But, that's only my guess. Thank's for your help. Justme |
