3 | Is God hand so short that he cannot lead | Col 2:21 | popdzl | 93636
Dear Justme, First let me start by apologizing to any whom I may offended, however, I am afraid that you (and possibly others) have missed the mark of what I said in lieu of the original question. Secondly, let me attempt to clarify some statements I wrote in my last posting. I stated that separations based on CUSTOMS not BELIEFS are trivial and that the source of this type of division is a root of racism and nationalism. I in no way implied or inferred that any church or denomination is racist. As far as the question of pride in (y)our country is concerned, pride leads to all types of problems, however, that is another subject. Concerning my statements on indoctrination and false teachers, I would like to state that I was not saying that seminary students are parrots; the thought, in response to a specific comment, is that just because a person went to seminary does not mean that their beliefs are valid or rather authoritative. In addition, I never said that all teachers are false teachers; the statement is meant as a warning to people who put their belief in the academic credentials of others. Again, I am not saying that all teachers, whether in seminaries or not, are false teachers, however, think on this, if you want to deceive the most people, the most effecient and effective way is by attempting to deceive the teacher's teacher. As far as my statement about this forum, I love this forum because it gives people the opportunity to ask questions and get no-nonsense responses. But, the nature of the material discussed on this forum lends itself to speculation for the simple fact that now we see dimly as a person looking into a mirror and that now we know in part; what is known in part is not known. All responses are not answers. Lastly, I would like to say in conclusion, whosever God loves, He chastens. Peace in Christ Jesus be unto you. |

4 | Remember the Sabbath; when? | Gen 1:1 | popdzl | 89979
EdB, I am sorry I missed the earlier "explanations" given about the Sabbath and the observance thereof; therefore I am compelled to respond to this posting for two reasons: 1) this is a current discussion, and 2) your understanding is incomplete. Do not become offended by that statement. I am not writing this post to kindle any kind of debate or anger; you are to follow the scripture given and meditate thereon, and if your heart is not hardened, the Holy Spirit will give you a more complete understanding. Please do not disregard the meat of this post as splitting hairs or semantic points. The Adversary would have you to believe so, but everything is important to receive what God has for us. Our understanding of the observance of the Sabbath is more crucial to our salvation than most Christians realize. God ordained the seventh day for the Sabbath by merely acknowledging a seventh day; He then blessed it and sanctified it (Gen 2:2,3). He COMMANDED that on the SEVENTH day man was to rest from his work(s) as He rested from His (Ex 20:8-11). Keep in mind that this was a COMMANDMENT and not Law. The Law dealt with HOW to keep the commandments. Herein, lies the confusion. All commandments are orders, do this; don't do that. Most of the time, a command was given to a specific person, and, at all times, specific instructions were given in how to fulfill any given command. In the ten commandments, we have orders for living a life in God('s way). The Law as given by God through Moses was the specific instructions to keeping the commandments. By the time of Jesus' ministry, the Adversary had perverted the function of the Law. People began to view it as a means of salvation; they quantified and measured their holiness by it. It eventually led to a division of the people into two basic groups-the masses and the rabbis. The rabbis of the Pharisees and Sadducees viewed themselves as masters of the Law in knowledge and in deed. Because of their dominance in society, their physical mastery of the Law became a means to enslave or suppress the masses. In other words, they began to use the Law to secure their exalted status in society by bringing attention to the "unLawful" actions of others; therefore, if a person could not master the Law, they could not challenge the system which had become corrupted. Then came Jesus. Jesus broke the yoke of the rabbis. He condensed all the commandements and the Law (another source of confusion: by this time also, the Law was seen as covenential commandments as opposed to instructions to fulfilling the commandments) into two commandments: love God with all your heart, strength, mind, and soul; and to love your neighbor as you love yourself (Mt 22:37, Mk 12:30, Lu 10:27). Hence, the question changed from needing external approval, "Rabbi, am I doing this right," to internal review, "Am I doing this for God." Jesus' ministry accomplishes several things: fulfills the law (Mt 5:17,18); does away with the need for the temple (Mt 12:6), the high priest (Heb 3:1, 4:14), and rabbis or teachers (1 Cor 12:1-11); in fulfilling the Law, JESUS DID NOT DO AWAY WITH THE SABBATH; He taught the true observance of the Sabbath (Heb 10:1,2) and the correct relationship of man to the Sabbath (Mk 2:27). He did not, however, change the DAY-Friday evening to Saturday evening-on which the Sabbath was observed; this change was made by the Romans/Gentiles who had converted to Christianity. |

5 | confusion with Acts 5:1 | Heb 13:8 | popdzl | 89352
Dan, Congratulations on your chose for life. You are developing a good habit by reading the Word. I encourage you to stay diligent in your studies. As you study, there will be passages of scripture that you may not understand or believe at all. But as you begin TO DO the things which you have read, e.g. pray without ceasing, meditate on the Word, lean not to your own understanding, etc., God will reveal things to you in answer to your questions or disbelief. I warn you, be not wary of the passages which you do not understand, but of the ones which you do; Revelations will continue for you as you are willing to accept them, but as you are holding on to that which you understand, you will not be able to receive anything more which God has for you. God does everything decent and in order; therefore He will not reveal B until you understand A. But if you accept A as the ultimate truth, you will never get to Z. In response to your question, the couple had all the opportunity to repent from the time they conceived of the idea to hold back until the time in which they actually held back. Their immediate death shows that the presence of God was at that place of assembly, therefore, sin could not be present. Read the following scripture and meditate on them: Mt 12:22-37, Ja 1:13-18, and Rev 3:14-19. I admonish you to read Psalms and Proverbs (read at least one of each daily); in them you will find a lot of the wisdom, trust, love, and strength of God which you will need in your spiritual warfare. Continue to seek, for "blessed are they which do hunger and thirt after righteousness: for they will be filled." May God bless you and grant you peace in Jesus' name. |

6 | How does the Bible explain Rahab's lie? | James 4:17 | popdzl | 89159
The only place in the Bible where a lie is condoned is in 1Kings 22:22-23. The lie Rahab told, although beneficial, was not condoned by God. We must understand that at this particular moment, Rahab had not been introduced to God and therefore, she had no trust in Him. She had however heard of the greatness of God's power and as a result she feared Him and thus the Israelites. Because of this fear, she aligned herself with them by protecting the spies. The only way she knew how to prevent their capture was by lying. If she had a prior relationship in right standing with God, He would have led her in what to do and say when the spies and soldiers had approached her respectively. The lie condoned in 1Kings is a result of God granting us our heart's desire. In this episode, Ahab wanted to believe that he would be triumphant in battle. Because of his hubris, God sent a lying spirit to the prophets whom Ahab trusted. God provided the truth through Micaiah, but Ahab chose to disregard his words because he did not like the prophesies that Micaiah gave. As a result, Ahab was killed in the battle. So, truly, there is no cause good enough to lie. If a believer in Christ lies, s/he is denying God and thus Christ. Travellers on the Way should always put there trust in God in that He will always make a way for us even if the situation seems to call for us to stray or bend. God bless. |

10 | Is God hand so short that he cannot lead | Col 2:21 | popdzl | 88975
Tim, I do agree that there is a problem; whether in cornfield country (where I have never been) or in the bible belt (where I currently reside), the Church has become self-righteous akin to the Sadducees and the Pharisees. Many denominations have formed because someone did not agree with the CUSTOMS of the dominant denomination in their particular area as opposed to the DOCTRINE e.g. Catholics from the early Church; Protestants from Catholics; Baptist from Presbyterian; etc. On down to today, the myriad of denominations mainly exist because of some disagreement on customs (the Sadducees and Pharisees were separated on points of doctrine). The sad part of it all is that Jesus taught against division. The body is to be united, however, many churches can not see beyond their insignificant differences (any difference based on a custom is slight) in order to come together for the sake of building the Kingdom of God. It is a reflection or maybe the cause of what is wrong with this country (racism) and the world (nationalism). The irony of it all, Edb, is that EVERYBODY thinks that they are right because this guy or that guy believes the same thing or because they went to this seminary or that seminary and this is what they were taught (indoctrination). Clearly in Paul's day there were already false teachings and teachers. How much more so do you think there are today? The Adversary is smarter than ANYBODY. He knows how to manipulate a situation so that the focus of those on the Way is shifted from the finish line to golden apples along the wayside. (Yes this is a reference to Greek mythology but it is not the focus here). Many people teach for their own glory-the glory that comes when people follow what they say; therefore they "teach" about things which they do not know and substitute speculation for truth. Look at many of the postings on this website and consider the debates spawned from questions which no man can answer. What it all boils down to is that people will do whatever they want and use anything to justify it. Sadly, this is practiced by the Church of Today. Peace be unto you in the name of Jesus |

11 | Parallels? | Ps 119:1 | popdzl | 86152
Prazn, You have once again referenced another piece of scripture which speaks to me. This scripture is the plumbline which I use to determine if I am leaning to the right or to the left. Unfortunately, I see that many people study the Word and use it to support the ideals with wich they have been indoctrinated or to justify their lifestyles instead of studying in order to get a more clarified revelation of the truth. I encourage you to read Isaiah and take note of the character of the Lord's servant (take particular note of chapters 42 and 53). I believe that God wants us to adopt these traits as we abide in Jesus. |

12 | What about those who never hear gospel? | Prov 24:12 | popdzl | 85852
Does he go to hell? Who can say? But, Pr 24:12 supports the idea that God considers ALL things in judgement of our works. Jer 32:40 supports the idea that the word of God is in the heart of us all. Whether we listen to it is another matter entirely. Ro 1:19-20 tells that there is no excuse for the non-belief in the existence of God. Meditating on these three scripture alone, one can come to a myriad of conclusions about the condition of the soul of one who has not heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, but the bottom line is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come to the father except through Him, but does this mean that an unhearing native is damned to hell? My God is the most merciful, holy one of Israel and as such, considers all things. But to answer your question on its face, no he does not go to hell, although, the skeptic who posed the question may be another story. |

13 | Parallels? | Ps 119:1 | popdzl | 85830
Prazn, I encourage you to keep your vigilence and your diligence. Your postings are a relief from the usual. Praise God in the name of Jesus! This psalm is a favorite partially because it does delineate the blessings given by the word of God. Along with reading, knowing, and doing, we must also accept these things. Do you see a parallel between this psalm and discipleship to Jesus Christ? |

14 | was jonathan faithful to GOD AND WHY | 1 Sam 15:23 | popdzl | 85799
Jonathan was faithful to God because Saul had been rejected and David had been chosen. Once David had been chosen, Jonathan paid the cost of discipleship by forsaking his father (in matters concerning David) and thus remaining faithful to God. Jonathon's role was to keep God's servant safe from the king at his court.
15 | Modern-day Pharisees and Scribes | Matt 23:9 | popdzl | 85796
We as servants of christ must look at our actions and words as we minister unto others, and we must be truthful with ourselves. People outside of God's will look to us as examples of how "Christians" should act; sadly, many of us-me especially-do not do the things which we know to be God's righteousness. Yet, we are quick to minister to others and tell them what they should do, how they should act, etc. in order to be in a better standing with God. We tend to lean on our own understanding and to be self-righteous. Most of us tend to use the sword of the spirit as a weapon to destroy external adversaries instead of internal ones. If we practiced the teachings of Christ, we would see that our biggest enemy is the adversary within us.
16 | Questions on the Divine Nature | NT general Archive 1 | popdzl | 85721
A believer CAN NOT partake of the divine nature of Christ without a genuine relationship with the Lord; and still this relationship must be a proper servant-master relationship. Even still, a believer must become a disciple and be willing to forsake all that s/he has in the world. We are conformed to the image of the Lord through what we ingest supernaturally from God. This is why we are admonished to think properly; why we are to remember that we do not struggle against people but against powers and principalities; why we can do all things through God who strengthens us, etc. The natural world is the evidence of the spiritual; it is a copy of sorts. So, as we "ingest" the Holy Spirit, the evidence of this will be our actions, thoughts, and speech in the natural world. Personally, I feel that communion is "heart to heart" but that the ritual is the evidence of our servant/master relationship in that He commanded us to do it in remeberance of Him. |

17 | called by my name,who is called? | Matt 22:14 | popdzl | 85666
Being called is sort of like being asked to do something because a body is needed; being chosen is like being a number one draft pick. In 2 Chronicles, God is saying those who call on Him are called by Him; in Matthew 22:14, Jesus is saying that of all who are called, not all are chosen.
18 | MAny are called - not All are called??? | Matt 22:14 | popdzl | 85665
Ainimoja, The translation of the original text as given in the KJV is fairly accurate; there is not much lateral movement for the key word "many" of your question. However, I have previously meditated on this verse and have been given an understanding which may help you. Read the whole book of Isaiah because it is a blueprint of the way God wills to do in giving us salvation; it also gives much insight into the teachings of the Gospels. As you read, notice in Isaiah 6:10 all eyes are blinded and all ears are closed. In Isaiah 35:1-6 the ears and eyes are opened of those who trusted in the Lord; the lame walk, and the dumb speak. After reading Isaiah, look at Jeremiah 31:33; here God has placed His word in our hearts. Now go to Romans 10:17. We see here that the faith we need in Isaiah 35 comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (which was placed in our heart). Therefore, only many are called because not ALL have the faith that is necessary. |

19 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 50408
You stated the supposition, "If sin stuck to Him, He would have died spiritually." This is exactly why He spent the three days in Sheol. What was finished on the cross was the actual act of bearing our sins physically; spiritually, He had to "deposit" those sins or "captivity" in their proper place-Sheol. Because He went there does not imply or signify that He suffered. To understand this issue with more clarity, study sacrifice and energy as well as the cleansing of sin. |

20 | would it be wrong if... | Galatians | popdzl | 43721
If that were the case, (not being drunk and not having a drinking problem) then God may not have a problem. What you must remember is that God has a personal relationship with everyone; if He is displeased with our actions, He will let us know. The best recourse you can take in regards to your friend is present them with all of God's word as it relates to drinking and to doing His will. Amongst these two topics, I believe your friend (and you for that matter) will be able to determine what is acceptable for them; even if it is drinking, you must be able to accept it as it is based in His word.
