21 | Sin defined by gentiles? | Ex 20:2 | popdzl | 43719
Just as God gave the laws to His chosen people, the gods of the other nations gave them their laws.
22 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 43718
As He died for our sins, He had sin. Therefore, he had to go to Sheol. The three days were spent in mainly to cleanse Him of our sins and consequentially to fulfill prophecy.
23 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 43107
Three is the number of divine manifestation. On the tird day, Joseph's prophecy came true, on the third day, God created the seed and fruit bearing things of the earth, the third tribe of Israel (Levi) are the priests of the Lord, on the third day, Jacob, Simeon, and Levi laid waste to all the males of the city (Gen 34:25), etc. He had to spend three days in order to manifest His prophecy and to show that it is of a divine nature.
24 | What do i say to someone about drinking | Galatians | popdzl | 43103
People of biblical times drank wine mainly due to the lack of good drinking water. It is okay to drink as long as you are not trying to get drunk or "drown your sorrows away". However, if one has a drinking problem, one should not drink and others around them should not drink as this would provide a temptation. Ultimately, when God does not want one to drink, the Spirit will move to convict them, and thus, they will work out their own salvation.
25 | Why is fruit singular and not plural? | Galatians | popdzl | 43098
It is singular because all those attributes are aspects of the one fruit. Just as a peach is juicy, sweet, fragrant, etc. so the fruit of the Spirit bestows joy, peace, longsuffering, etc.
26 | is masterbation a sin? | Galatians | popdzl | 43097
This is a very good question which touches on at least two aspects of sin. When one is engaged in the act of masterbation, there is at least the physical desire to ejaculate which one might consider fornication hence a lusting of the flesh and thus a sin; commonly, the act involves either looking at or visualizing an object which would fill the mind and thus the heart with lustful desires and this makes the act covetous (because one desires something out of the lust of the flesh) and thus a sin. Jesus states (Mt 5:28) that even if looking at a woman (object) with lust in your heart, one has committed adultery (coveted). This is why we are to try to keep our minds free of sinful and evil thoughts; eventually, theses thoughts find there way into the heart.
27 | Sin defined by gentiles? | Ex 20:2 | popdzl | 43094
The other nations (and individuals) were judged by how they treated Israel when Israel was being obedient to the will of God. If they received favorable judgement, there was often a condition which they had to follow in order to receive a blessing from God. Compare Rahab in Joshua (6:17), Naaman in II Kings (5:1 ff), the Amalekites in I Samuel (15:2), the Kenites in I Samuel (15:6), and Solomon's dedication of the temple in I Kings (8:41-43). However, due to the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled by Jesus (Mt 12:17-21), the judgement of gentiles is now based on faith in Jesus and works towards all people.
28 | When will Christ come in Kingdom Power? | Mark 9:1 | popdzl | 42984
Hey Mel, this is a very interesting question you pose here. When I first read it, I really did not understand what you meant with "what phase". After careful consideration, I believe that He means on a personal level.
29 | Can satan read our mind. | Eph 4:18 | popdzl | 42030
Steve, I would like to thank you for note based on intellect and not emotion. I must confess that I had never read that Satan has the ability to read our hearts; an ordained minister told me that once, so I took it to heart. Your note has caused me to research (which I love) the subject, and although I have not found any verses which specifically states that Satan can read hearts, I have come up with many verses which expound on the relation of the heart to evil, sinful, and wicked thoughts. However, with your note in mind, I wanted to show a correlation between the heart and the devil. Before I go further, I would like to state a few postulates which I took as givens. 1) The flesh is man's sinful nature. 2) The devil is the source of all sin and wickedness. 3)The heart is the fertile ground in which both righteousness or evil are able to flourish. With these postulates in hand, let's go to the scripture. In Prov 6:18, Gen 6:5, and Gen 8:21, we see that the heart devises wicked imaginations. Jeremiah 4:14 shows that vain thouhgts lodge within the heart, and Jeremiah 17:9 goes on to state that the heart is "deceitful above all things and desperately wicked." In conclusion, in light of these, and other scripture, I believe that if Satan can not read the hearts of the sinful, he definitely knows the sinful and wicked thoughts before they enter one's heart. Either way, I believe it amounts to the same thing i.e. Satan knowing the heart of the wicked. |

30 | Biblical discernment | John 19:41 | popdzl | 40644
Kalos, I commend you on your seeking. I would like to give you some things which I thought as I was reading your post. When you write "biblical disernment" are you implying that it is different from the gift of the Holy Spirit? I would like to study the passages which you cited in order to get a better understanding of what the authors meant. Lastly, I would recommend reading as pure a translation of the Bible (the original tongues if possible) as you can obtain. |

31 | Can satan read our mind. | Eph 4:18 | popdzl | 40642
Kalos, if you were to read all the scripture that speaks of the heart in conjunction with evil viz. Satan, you may find that evil manifests itself through the thoughts or desires of the heart. One does not commit an act of sin or wickedness until the desire is in one's heart. Because Satan has a certain ability to do something does not make him equal to God. I did not infer or imply that in my previous answer. Futhermore, if we look closer into Romans 8:27, we see that God has the ability to know "ALL" hearts whereas Satan only knows the heart of the sinful and wicked which all of us have been to a certain degree or another at one point in our lives. When our hearts become pure, Satan no longer has the ability to read them. Just as when you read my previous response, your heart was filled with some unpure emotion (probably pride), and Satan, seeing this emotion, used you to write a response filled with language which would have provoked my feelings of pride and caused me to strike back at you. However, through the grace of God and the power of discernment, his plan is thrawted. |

32 | Can satan read our mind. | Eph 4:18 | popdzl | 40221
No Satan can not read our minds, but he can read our hearts.
33 | So, to honor lies in married adulthood? | Matt 23:9 | popdzl | 39431
The whole thing is that you do not have to honor them; you honor God. You can be charitable, merciful, honest, etc. to them, but you do not have to "honor" them whereas they seem "wicked" in the biblical sense. When I say "honor", I mean do everything which they ask, associate with them more than necessary, etc. Truly, the factor here is how pure your (you and your husband) heart is. Cleanse yourself first of any emotional attachment to every situation that involves your in-laws, ask God to form your steps, and trust in Him. Within days, you will be able to see on a situatuion-by-situation basis whether or not your in-laws are deserving of any regard. Carefully read the Book of Proverbs over and over as necessary. Proverbs contains mountains of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding on righteous living and dealing with the unrighteous on a daily basis (notice there are 31 chapters, perhaps one for each day). I can see how sticky this situation is because they are your husband's parents, however, if you are truly married, you should be (or strive to be) on one accord physically, mentally, and spiritually. You should consider the whole situation an open-book test. So do not be apprehensive about opening the Book to get answers; even if you've read that part of the Book, you may find that on re-reading it a new light has been lit and verses which you may not have understood in some ways may be open unto you. |

35 | What does "THE ARM OF THE LORD" mean? | John 12:38 | popdzl | 39335
God created man in His image, therefore, He has two arms as we do. One arm, the right, He uses to shew forth mercy; the other, severity. Therefore, if we "see" His arm, we will experience either an act of mercy or of severity. As believers, it is important that we stay away from actions which would have Him "show" us His arm of severity and that we encourage actions, thoughts, etc. that would allow Him to "show" us His Holy arm, the right arm, of mercy. (I say allow because He is bound by His Word, and as such will not do certain things until we do certain things.) |

36 | How do you "honor" lying parents? | Matt 23:9 | popdzl | 39329
The Bible means that we should honor our Father in heaven for He is our true father. As for our parents on earth, we should honor them as authority figures (as all authority is given by the grace of God). However, when we become men and women, their authority is limited to the authority which we or our circumstances give them, and if we marry, they have no more authority (unless you give it to them). Verily, I say unto you, nevermind your in-laws and honor your Father in heaven by keeping his commandments, judgements, and ways. If you do this, He will be your stronghold from everlasting to everlasting. (Also check out Proverbs 25:22.) |

37 | WAS JESUS GOD ON EARTH TOO OR JUSTMAN | Ps 8:5 | popdzl | 39318
Thank you Hank for the scripture. I read it, and I also researched the word which was translated "asleep" in the scripture. I shall first write on the translation; as for the scripture, I will expound on that in another part of the forum. In the Greek, the word katheudo means to "lie down to rest"; by implication it means to "fall asleep". Therefore, someone translating from Greek to other languages could (and appearantly has) translate the word as asleep by implication of Him having a pillow. I, however, prefer to use "lie down to rest". Whereas you and someone else pointed out that God does not sleep. I concede, maybe He was not meditating, but my point is that He was not so much of a man that He was so tired that He was sleeping through the storm. As for John 19:28, look for my response under that particular verse in this forum (if you are still actively using the forum.) |

38 | WAS JESUS GOD ON EARTH TOO OR JUSTMAN | Ps 8:5 | popdzl | 39311
To Radioman and EdB: Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to 'set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own household.' He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. - Matthew 10:34-39 Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye': and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. - Matthew 7:1-6 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of teh money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And he said to them,"It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.'" Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant and said to Him,"Do You hear what they are saying?" and Jesus said to them,"Yes, Have you never read, 'Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise'?" -Matthew 21:12-16 |

Hank, the purpose of a forum is to discuss different thoughts and ideas on a given subject. Some ideas may fit into your little box and others may not. If you feel so disheartened by differing ideas maybe you should not continue to be an active user; I for one would miss your if not insightful, knowledgeable comments. Your rebuttals and notes make me think and rethink which I feel is the purpose of a forum; not just trying to "convert" other people to my ways of thinking. It seems to me that some people who use this forum either do not truly read the scripture that someone may cite or do not read the whole dialogue on a topic from the beginning; both of these are necessary to get a better understanding of a conveyed idea.
40 | WAS JESUS GOD ON EARTH TOO OR JUSTMAN | Ps 8:5 | popdzl | 39036
Hank and Lionstrong (and anyone else for this matter), I am not implying or even inferring that God slept ever at anytime; I said He rested. In the note to which I was replying, the author said that Jesus was so much of a man that He was so tired that He slept through a raging storm. I am merely saying that He was resting [the scripture says He was asleep] as it was not time for Him to move. I have yet to come across any scripture which says Jesus slept because He was tired, ate because He was hungry, or drank because He was thirsty. I truly believe that He was not even sleep on the boat; He more than likely was meditating and the disciples perceived Him to be sleep because "He was on a pillow" (and probably with his eyes closed). Likewise, I believe that He overcame the NEEDS of the flesh when He overcame the temptations of Satan. As you may recall, Satan appealed to His hunger (turn the stones to bread and eat), to His eyes (all that You see will be Yours), and to His pride (jump and the angels will catch You lest You should dash Your foot upon a stone). In each instance, Jesus rebuked him with the Word. Every little thing Jesus did had a purpose behind it for He is "about His Father's business."
