1 | Wife learning to control tongue......... | Bible general Archive 1 | popdzl | 38696
The epistle of James has a wealth of wisdom on controling the tongue. The Book of Proverbs is also a vast storehouse on righteous living. Consider both of these (especially Prov 27:19) when having discussions with your husband or anyone else for that matter. Also, Joyce Meyer has a book out called, "Me and My Big Mouth," which expounds on the significance and practice (all bibilically-based) of controling the mouth.

3 | Questions on the Divine Nature | NT general Archive 1 | popdzl | 85721
A believer CAN NOT partake of the divine nature of Christ without a genuine relationship with the Lord; and still this relationship must be a proper servant-master relationship. Even still, a believer must become a disciple and be willing to forsake all that s/he has in the world. We are conformed to the image of the Lord through what we ingest supernaturally from God. This is why we are admonished to think properly; why we are to remember that we do not struggle against people but against powers and principalities; why we can do all things through God who strengthens us, etc. The natural world is the evidence of the spiritual; it is a copy of sorts. So, as we "ingest" the Holy Spirit, the evidence of this will be our actions, thoughts, and speech in the natural world. Personally, I feel that communion is "heart to heart" but that the ritual is the evidence of our servant/master relationship in that He commanded us to do it in remeberance of Him. |

4 | where can i locate jehovah, jehovah jir | Genesis | popdzl | 37305
Those terms are in Genesis scattered throughout. The stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob contain most of the uses of those terms. Pay attention to the naming of wells, encampments, and cities which any of these three may have founded or visited. As God would manifest something, they would name the place after the manifestation, e.g. One city, Luz, was renamed Beth-el,the house of God, because Jacob saw angels ascending to and descending from heaven and spoke with God there.
5 | Who else besides Cain, Adam, and Eve? | Genesis | popdzl | 16209
Yes there were other people. Adam was created before the end of the third day,Gen 2:5-7, however he did not live on the earth he lived in Eden. Gen 1:26-31 shows that the rest of mankind was created on the sixth day and inhabited the earth.
6 | Who else besides Cain, Adam, and Eve? | Genesis | popdzl | 37622
Joe, I admit, I do not understand from whence you come. Please refer to the verses given in my original response and actually read them with clarity of vision. In my NKJV it plainly states that before there was vegetation and life on the earth, God created for himself a garden and created Adam to tend to it. Later, he created Eve to be Adams helper/partner/assistant. It says that plants were created on the earth on the fourth day, therefore, if Eden was created before there was any vegetation on the earth, and Adam was created in the same day as Eden, then Adam (and Eve) were created before the rest of humanity which clearly was created on the sixth day. Please drop some scripture on me or other scholarly materials. Thx |

Emmaus, the key here is when did the "Fall" occur. It would also be beneficial to note that any creator will create a blueprint of sorts to be used over.
8 | Doesn't God hear us always? | Gen 1:1 | popdzl | 37241
Yes God hears us always. The problem is that we are not always able to hear or interpret his answers. Thus, we feel that either he is not able to hear us or is not answering us. Unforgiveness is the result of a hard heart which would not allow one to hear any response from God.
9 | Remember the Sabbath; when? | Gen 1:1 | popdzl | 89979
EdB, I am sorry I missed the earlier "explanations" given about the Sabbath and the observance thereof; therefore I am compelled to respond to this posting for two reasons: 1) this is a current discussion, and 2) your understanding is incomplete. Do not become offended by that statement. I am not writing this post to kindle any kind of debate or anger; you are to follow the scripture given and meditate thereon, and if your heart is not hardened, the Holy Spirit will give you a more complete understanding. Please do not disregard the meat of this post as splitting hairs or semantic points. The Adversary would have you to believe so, but everything is important to receive what God has for us. Our understanding of the observance of the Sabbath is more crucial to our salvation than most Christians realize. God ordained the seventh day for the Sabbath by merely acknowledging a seventh day; He then blessed it and sanctified it (Gen 2:2,3). He COMMANDED that on the SEVENTH day man was to rest from his work(s) as He rested from His (Ex 20:8-11). Keep in mind that this was a COMMANDMENT and not Law. The Law dealt with HOW to keep the commandments. Herein, lies the confusion. All commandments are orders, do this; don't do that. Most of the time, a command was given to a specific person, and, at all times, specific instructions were given in how to fulfill any given command. In the ten commandments, we have orders for living a life in God('s way). The Law as given by God through Moses was the specific instructions to keeping the commandments. By the time of Jesus' ministry, the Adversary had perverted the function of the Law. People began to view it as a means of salvation; they quantified and measured their holiness by it. It eventually led to a division of the people into two basic groups-the masses and the rabbis. The rabbis of the Pharisees and Sadducees viewed themselves as masters of the Law in knowledge and in deed. Because of their dominance in society, their physical mastery of the Law became a means to enslave or suppress the masses. In other words, they began to use the Law to secure their exalted status in society by bringing attention to the "unLawful" actions of others; therefore, if a person could not master the Law, they could not challenge the system which had become corrupted. Then came Jesus. Jesus broke the yoke of the rabbis. He condensed all the commandements and the Law (another source of confusion: by this time also, the Law was seen as covenential commandments as opposed to instructions to fulfilling the commandments) into two commandments: love God with all your heart, strength, mind, and soul; and to love your neighbor as you love yourself (Mt 22:37, Mk 12:30, Lu 10:27). Hence, the question changed from needing external approval, "Rabbi, am I doing this right," to internal review, "Am I doing this for God." Jesus' ministry accomplishes several things: fulfills the law (Mt 5:17,18); does away with the need for the temple (Mt 12:6), the high priest (Heb 3:1, 4:14), and rabbis or teachers (1 Cor 12:1-11); in fulfilling the Law, JESUS DID NOT DO AWAY WITH THE SABBATH; He taught the true observance of the Sabbath (Heb 10:1,2) and the correct relationship of man to the Sabbath (Mk 2:27). He did not, however, change the DAY-Friday evening to Saturday evening-on which the Sabbath was observed; this change was made by the Romans/Gentiles who had converted to Christianity. |

10 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 43107
Three is the number of divine manifestation. On the tird day, Joseph's prophecy came true, on the third day, God created the seed and fruit bearing things of the earth, the third tribe of Israel (Levi) are the priests of the Lord, on the third day, Jacob, Simeon, and Levi laid waste to all the males of the city (Gen 34:25), etc. He had to spend three days in order to manifest His prophecy and to show that it is of a divine nature.
11 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 43718
As He died for our sins, He had sin. Therefore, he had to go to Sheol. The three days were spent in mainly to cleanse Him of our sins and consequentially to fulfill prophecy.
12 | why three days? and not three hours | Gen 40:13 | popdzl | 50408
You stated the supposition, "If sin stuck to Him, He would have died spiritually." This is exactly why He spent the three days in Sheol. What was finished on the cross was the actual act of bearing our sins physically; spiritually, He had to "deposit" those sins or "captivity" in their proper place-Sheol. Because He went there does not imply or signify that He suffered. To understand this issue with more clarity, study sacrifice and energy as well as the cleansing of sin. |

13 | Sin defined by gentiles? | Ex 20:2 | popdzl | 43094
The other nations (and individuals) were judged by how they treated Israel when Israel was being obedient to the will of God. If they received favorable judgement, there was often a condition which they had to follow in order to receive a blessing from God. Compare Rahab in Joshua (6:17), Naaman in II Kings (5:1 ff), the Amalekites in I Samuel (15:2), the Kenites in I Samuel (15:6), and Solomon's dedication of the temple in I Kings (8:41-43). However, due to the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled by Jesus (Mt 12:17-21), the judgement of gentiles is now based on faith in Jesus and works towards all people.
14 | Sin defined by gentiles? | Ex 20:2 | popdzl | 43719
Just as God gave the laws to His chosen people, the gods of the other nations gave them their laws.
15 | why were Eli's sons permitted to do this | 1 Samuel | popdzl | 37242
As a man of God, Eli only did God's will. It was not Eli's duty to "save" his sons. Only they-his sons, could do that by stopping their wicked acts, repenting, and following after the Lord. Just as later, Samuel could neither prevent Israel from demanding a king other than God nor the king from disobeying God's commandments.
16 | Is the image in 1Sam. 28 really Samuel? | 1 Samuel | popdzl | 37245
Yes, it was actually Samuel. At this point, the Holy Spirit had departed from Saul, thus the Lord had no reason to test him, and as we see, the words of Samuel's spirit actually came true.
17 | What was Saul's problem? | 1 Samuel | popdzl | 37247
Saul knew that his days as king were numbered (1Sam 15:23,26,28) and figured that David would be the one to replace him. It-the idea of losing his throne, showed that Saul had become enslaved to the flesh and to worldly things. None of what happened between Saul and David would have occurred if Saul would have had let go of the throne when the time came; instead he tried to prevent or overthrow God's word. This act-preventing God's word from manifesting into truth, is what led to the ruin of him and his posterity.
18 | was jonathan faithful to GOD AND WHY | 1 Sam 15:23 | popdzl | 85799
Jonathan was faithful to God because Saul had been rejected and David had been chosen. Once David had been chosen, Jonathan paid the cost of discipleship by forsaking his father (in matters concerning David) and thus remaining faithful to God. Jonathon's role was to keep God's servant safe from the king at his court.
19 | Please explain the verse? | 1 Kings | popdzl | 37248
It means that in whatever you believe, have faith.
20 | Why punish the man of God? | 1 Kings | popdzl | 37252
This passage of scripture allows us to see that we who have heard from God must follow through with what He has spoken unless He tells us otherwise. The prophet was not the original courier of the word to the man of God, therefore the man of God should not have listened to him even if he said that an angel told him it was OK for him to do so. If he had been uncertain, he could have asked God. The punishment for priests and knowers of the word is always more severe than for general believers and non-believers. God allowed the prophet to be used (either by Him or Satan) to test the man of God.
